How many .40 brass in a 5 gallon bucket?

Bobby.

I have a bunch of .40 brass. I counted out a 1000 (to ship to a buddy) weighed 23.8 lbs including the bag I put it in.

As it turns out buddy came to town so I didn't have to ship it, so I am not sure if my scale is accurate. Accurate enough I assumed......

Based on the numbers I have I would guess about 2500 brass in your bucket...... But that seems really low...... According to your numbers 1000 brass is like 10 lbs...... thats curious...... Maybe I need a new scale...

Cheers!

Alrighty, I double checked my measurements, and they're reasonably accurate. The whole mass was weighed twice, once when I paid at the yard, and once here at home, both measurements agree, and I just weighed a hundred and they came to 1 pound and 0.2 ounces, so... the same as 4oz per 25.

Now, it is possible however, that different brands use different case wall thicknesses, and alloys...

Winchester 1x fire primed is 4.685 Grams, 1000 cases would be 10.328657 lbs, if you have to know exactly you can count them out, or use a counting scale.

Just grab several sample sizes, weigh them out, then take the average weight for each sample size and go from there to get a pretty damn close estimate.

Then spend 20 hours counting each one. I will then phone you and make you lose count.
