How many AR's in Canada?

When they went from non-restricted to restricted in the 90's there had been around 50,000 imported and around 35,000 were registered (numbers from Garry B. website). One would think there would be maybe 80,000 or so now in Canada. The Canadian Forces would have a boatload of them, maybe 100K?
 
Call the Canadian Firearms Centre see if they have a process of statistical disclosure for the civillian market

The Canadian Forces began purchasing the C7 series in the 80's I believe. Again maybe you can call a recruiting office for these kind of statistics, or it may be buried on the forces website, as they do list number of vehicles and other equipment.

For comparison, the Netherlands purchased about 50,000 rifles in the mid 90's, and they had about 55,000 active members. I imagine the Canadian Forces follow a similar principle of around 1 rifle per person (obviously not everyone has one at all times, but they would stock them for chance of going to war), I believe we have 65,000 regular and 25,000 reservists, so I imagine we have 100,000 in circulation, storage, or repair/retrofit centres at a minimum. I know we gave away 2500 pieces to the afghanistan army that were "surplus" so we must have quite a few to give up a pretty large number for such a small military

I believe these were C7A1's given away, as they are slowly being replaced by the C7A2's. Many reserve regiments and other low priorities still use the C7A1, waiting for the upgrade.

It would be interesting for the Norinco AK's numbers too, imported versus actual registered. At best, it's just guestimates.

If we have 100k of troops it would be more like 40k of c7s and maybe 10k of pistols.
As for machine guns ect i would have no idea.
I live by cfb trenton, most of the airforce guys i talk to dont even know wher to go it they had a call to arms.
one guy said to me he has never bothered to even try on his tac vest, not did he think it would fit as hes a 3xl and did not ask the qm if the tac vest came in 3xl.

im pretty sure theyre not being replaced, rather re-fitted with the green furniture, ambi-controls, and a collapsible stock. I say this because all the C7s at our regiment have an "A2" stamped it after the original C7 markings.

The A2 desgnation sounds correct for my son's rifle in his reserve regiment. Green with collapsible, ambi and elcan. Chris what regiment you in?

I think they were actually C7s, not C7A1s. the C7 has an M16A1-style carry handle / iron sight upper receiver. the C7A1 has a flat top.

And the C7A2 is just a factory update / overhaul. New furniture, stock, TRI-AD, cocking handle, ambi stuff. The guts and the receivers don't change, i believe. C7A1s are sent in, updated, then return as an A2.
