How many deer do you injure and not recover every year?

The original post sounds like Peace River Alberta. The guy was bragging that he shot 6 does and only loaded 5 because he shot the 6th one 6 times and it wasn't worth it.
My lost animal was shot with a 30/30 and the tall grass pulled the shot low. Knocked it down but it got up and I tracked that sucker for 5 miles and he lost me when he used a trail that 20 other deer used. I still went out the next day and tried to find his trail. He stopped bleeding at mile 3. He came back the next year to snort at me hiding in my blind before daybreak.
The people who taught him hunting are the same ones who toss all their garbage beside where they camp.

In all my years of hunting, only once did i shoot a dear and not have it DRT. I underestimated the range and my shot went low. 150 grain .308 softpoint cut through both front legs and basically amputated both of them. Found him piled up in a creek 75 yards away still alive and with plenty of fight in him, (75 yards with NO front legs and the blood trail had ended after 25 yards) but unable to get out the other side.

Recovered, but that experience still haunts me. Spent a lot of time practicing ranging out to my maximum comfort level, so i never have to leave an animal suffer again.

I lost a bear this summer. I'm still feeling sick about it. I brought a brand new to hunting buddy with me who doesn't know the area and is new to firearms. A bear ran past me at about 40 yards. Cross hairs on his shoulder I fired a 400 gr woodliegh at 2400 fps into him. He nosedived in the dirt rolled over and took off. I gave him 20 mins and then went to look. Easily found his tracks where he was shot. No blood. I tore my Achilles tendon partially from my bone so I couldn't walk very well but I dragged myself up thru a lot of blow down and into very thick Pines surrounded by raspberrys. About 50 yards up this thick hill I found 3 drops of blood. Another few yards I lost the track and crawling thru the undergrowth I came across extremely fresh #### and tracks. The track was almost 7" across with a cub print about 2.5" across inside of it. 26" barreled rifle extremely thick growth and only being able to stand on one leg I decided to tuck tail. My buddy and I searched the entire area best we could the next morning and later that day I fired a shot off listening for Ravens but heard nothing. Sometime it happens and you loose a game animal. I've lost 4 deer since I started bow hunting. 2 of those the arrow touched a twig and went off course. One was the first shot from a stand and I didn't realize the arrow hits higher when shooting downward. The other a nice buck quartering toward me moved his head and I shot his antler. No blood but he sure couldn't run right for the first 60 yards.

I never had a mentor & so was self taut . Loosing game makes my stomach turn over. I spent 2 hours once retrieving a duck .
Last week I spent 1/2 hr. going through tall grass to find a grouse that I shot . I never lost any big game , but have needed to
track some for 1/2 a day ( that was my very first deer & I was NOT going to loose it !! ) .
This guy needs help . A mentor , training or maybe he just should not be a hunter ? Some people just do not respect the
game they shoot. I have hunted with these people & do not anymore .
I spent 20 years giving the Hunter Ed. course , I warned all my students that bow hunting is only for those who will practice often
and become good shots . Then they must only take shots that are ,,,, "just right for them to be fatal for their game" .
Bottom line is you must respect the game , to give them all a quick kill & recover them to eat .
