Hi.. I have a pellet gun already and its a russian made crack barrel, old, weak, inaccurate in 177.Its not a slavia. its a NNB USSR model.
I have been debating getting a benjamin NP 1200 FPS in 177. But thought i could reduce the FPS and go 22 cal. So the debate right now is 177 at 1200 FPS or 22 cal at 900 FPS. I know didly squate about pellet guns but the benjamin looks good to me for price and DB. The quieter the better.
I have always had a 177 since i was 5 and like 177 but will listen to someone with better pellet gun experience to chime in .
So i am talking body shot at about 40 yds.
Thanks

Drozd blackbird is a solution. Unfortunately, it is just under 500 fps but it does have one BIG advantage. The BB gun shoots full auto and with a new electronic chip can reach 1200rpm. That would be 20 BB's a second!

Even though the velocity is below 500 fps, it doesn't seem to matter with this gun. :D

Put a red dot on it and spray!
Instant kills up to 20 yards from my experience.

Interesting... Not my cup o tea as i would rather blow one big feather flying hole through a magpie. I would love to try one though. BB,s cant be accurate i dont think. Anything over 20 yds would be all over the map.

As a kid , my brother & I kill thousands of gophers with a 500 FPS Slavia 624 & 620. I am sure a MAGPIE won't be too big a problem .AND as far as getting a shot at a magpie, good luck, unless you can outsmart one, as they are smarter than most guys with guns !!!

Yea,well. I already ruined it for myself shooting at one at close range with my pathetic pellet gun. I missed. Got another shot a few days later, hit him but he just shrugged it off and flew away. Now hes at my neighbors taunting me.
They do still fly into my yard although very briefly , pretty sure i can nail one if i creep outside all stealthy like in full camo. :)

They announce their arrival sqauking like crazy so i think i can nail one.

You gotta be Fin kidding me?

1 - BB's are very innacurate

2 - magpies are small targets, and spray and pray is not the answer.

3 - Those BB's are probably not travelling at 500 fps, and if it is CO2 operated the velocities drop way down once a few shots get fired.

4 - this is just a really stupod idea

And my 500 fps pellet gun kills squirrels at 20m no problems.

If you want to shoot much further than that I would say the 900 fps .22 cal is a good bet.

The 17 cal would also require buying new cleaning stuff if your not already set up for it.

Thanks guys. 22 cal will be my choice at 950 fps.

:agree:
Good call. High powered spring and nitro-pistons take a little getting used to hold-wise. Use the 'artillery' hold and shoot a tin of pellets (always fun).

A friend with a NP in 22 went through a full tin before it started to settle down.

My Slavia 620 accounted for more rabbits, crows, ####hawks, raccoons, dickie birds, stray cats, frogs, starlings, squirrels and ducks than I can count.(I ate the ducks) I miss those early years bad.

I took a Diana M48 in .177 to Water Valley Alberta back in the 90's and
used it on maggpies, but I sure had to use all the sneaky stalking skills
I could muster amongst the cottonwoods to get the twitchy pricks.
My Diana M52 .22 is my airgun of choice now. Here....kitty, kitty.:D
