how many guys go through times when they completely loose interest?

Buy a new gun that you think you don't need. I bought a single shot thinking they were the lamest hunting tools on the planet; boy was I wrong. Variety is the spice of life. Yes, we all go through periods of anxiety and/or depression, however mild. Those that say they don't are only fooling themselves.

Firearms aren’t my only hobby. There’s got to be a balance. Unfortunately it’s not always easy to just jump back into shooting/reloading. I wouldn’t be too worried about it. Even if you sell stuff off, it’ll be waiting for you on the ee when you want to try again.

wondering how many of you go through times when you totally loose interest in hunting and shooting ? First time in decades its happen for me, just cant seem to find the spark again. Any ideas on how to find the interest again

Hunting and shooting is not an obligation or a contest for that matter , I know lots of friends who used to hunt and shoot lots, then got into so something else or just lost interest .

"Etching" hmmmmm? I have heard asking a chick to come over to see your etchings works better than asking her to come over and see your gun collections.Just saying.;)

Nah, come to think of it, the wife might frown on me getting chicks over to see my etchings. Back to the basement with me to do some reloading.

I've lost some interest in hunting on Vancouver Island due to gated roads. I still manage to get out, just not as often. I look forward to my annual Mule deer hunting trip in the BC interior. As far as shooting practice, I seem to go in spurts. Im due to start up again :)

"Etching" was an autocorrect screw up .:p

That's fine, gave me a laugh anyway! I hate auto correct, you really gotta check what is in a message before you send it!Read a joke about a guy sending an email to his neighbour about internet access issues he had while his neighbour was out of town. He sent an apology to the effect that because his home setup stopped working he had been using his neighbour's wifi (autocorrected to WIFE) while he was out of town. He said it really worked out well but he felt guilty about it so he thought he should let him know,

I tend to cycle through my my hobbies. Hunting/shooting, fishing, trucks/4 wheeling, chainsaws, and farming/ranching on the property.

I have always been Someone that commits to one thing full bore. Then on to something else. But always cycle back around.

Can be frustrating at times but eventually something sparks a interest in changing back to a hobby
I enjoy going in-depth into a specific aspect of a hobby

For shooting
Reloading
Long range rimfire
Trap shooting
Predator hunting
Waterfowl hunting
Trapping
One season all I did was hunt grouse with a shotgun. Never even took a rifle out.

Obsess then move on. Lol.
One day I’ll be a well rounded outdoorsman

I haven’t lost interest in hunting/shooting yet but I have in some different hobbies over the years. Sometimes a brake is a good thing, trying to force yourself into liking something is never fun and can ruin further interest. Whatever you do don’t sell your firearms, when your interest comes back you’ll be kicking yourself. Lol

Hunting wise I loose interest every late spring & summer espicially when its hot outside like this year however like clock work every mid august im ampted up for hunting...cant wait

A friend of mine has had ALLOT of trouble with this!

His interests would peak with a gun and he would bury himself into what he likes, then life would get busy, and he wouldnt do the thing he liked for awhile. When he could find the extra time again, he would sell off everything at a great loss, just so he could bury himself into a different hobby. This kind of routine has happened at least a dozen times since I met him. He would eventually get back into guns and complain about how he wished he had what he had before.

I told him to stop selling off “EVERYTHING” to get into the next hobby. Retain as much as he can, and save for the next project/hobby. Eventually when he makes his rounds again, he will be able to just pick it up where he left off seamlessly.

Since I was 18-20 years old, I made a point of trying various aspects of each hobby I enjoy. For instance, I love conventional jacketed bullet reloading, so bullet casting for pistol and rifle cartridges and alloy testing just fell into place.
I tried long range target shooting, and accumulated accurate rifles in very different range capability.
I got into accurizing hunting rifles, and muzzle loading (in-line, and traditional cap and ball). Pistol caliber carbines are a riot as well.

Now that I am older, I naturally cycle through the different disciplines and fire arms I have enjoyed and it doesn't put much of a strain on my finances.

And when the gun world isnt so shiny and luring, I go golfing or fishing. Keep it fresh, and it is much easier to deal with the lows.

Myself I find it easier to retain some aspects of handgun shooting that require no handloading.
In my instance rimfire target pistols and blackpowder revolvers. Others could scratch thier itch buying/using a 9mm handgun yet discarding the brass.
I digress. Lack of handloading keeps the clutter down somewhat yet retaining your gun handling skills with the social aspect of like minded souls at a recreational shooting club.

maybe

Not losing interest by any means but in aging thinking from time to time about down-sizing some of the collection.

Just not quite there yet, though.

NAA.

Don't hunt and haven't been to the range in months. Frankly, plinking wears thin after awhile. Gonna get back at it in the fall.
