I'm not passionate about the round :) just curious.
I have a G31 pending CFC... how many in Canada have .357SIG's?

P.S. I also have a 9mm barrel for it ;) incase you were wondering - I will get a .40S&W barrel for it down the road.

Any tips on ammo purchasing for the .357sig, is it possible to do in Canada and not blow $30 for 50rnds :shock:
 
I've owned a 226 in .357 a few years ago... had some good memories, and have just picked up
a .357Sig barrel to use in my new 226 ST (40 S&W).
I had put a few boxes of Winchester ammo aside and can now use them again!
Subjectively, it 'feels' pretty similar to shooting 40S&W..considering ballistics,, it's a pretty impressive round, but for our Canadian ( read non-CCW purposes) probably doesn't offer much advantage over the more readily available 40 rounds.....
The only plus is you truly get two guns in one, as the mags are the same, and no extractor or
ejector changes are necessary... drop in either barrel and have at it!
 
How are you going to drop in a 9mm barrel? You will need to change the extractor, mags at the very least. As far as I know the only reliable conversion is from 40 to 357 and vice versa.

As for purchasing ammo, learn to reload! :wink:
 
Yep, the Glock .40/.357 is a simple barrel/magazine swap.

However to do a 100% reliable 9mm swap you need the following:
-Aftermarket barrel in 9x19 designed for the G22/31
(Mine is a www.igbaustria.com barrel) (160 Euros)
-Extractor w/LCI in 9mm ($18USD)
-Spring Load Bearing LCI 9mm ($2.50USD)
-Trigger Housing 9mm ($5USD)
-9mm Magazines ($18USD)

And about 5 minutes to swap out/replace the parts :D

I'm looking forward to it!

How have you found the quality of the barre in 357 l? Is the finish similar to a normal Glock barrel? Does it drop in fine? I have been thinking of getting one for a Glock 22.
 
I don't have it yet... it's en route as soon as the CFC approves the transfer :roll:
should be next week though :)

However, with that said... I chose the G31 because from the images I've seen the barrel looks like it almost completely supported in the 6 o'clock spot; http://www.thegunzone.com/glock/kb-notes.html (Ignoring all the KB hype - this site seems to be anti-Glock in general - Good pics though, check the last one at the bottom of the page).

From reading posts over at http://www.glocktalk.com there has been 0 problems and the fit is just a drop in exchange.

The G31/22's are identical in every single part except for the barrels & magazine followers. :)
 
Considering the cost of the barrel/parts not to mention the expensive ammo (in Canada) why not just get a press and make hot 9mm loads? :|

...or just neck down .40 S&W brass by running through .357 SiG sizer die. The case will be a little short but most people I know who do that don't experience any headspace problems as a result....

Along the reloading line here, does one need to lube casings to full lenght resize these bottleneck casings or can you use a regular carbide pistol die without lube?

I have non-carbide dies from RCBS that I use with case lube. I don't know if anyone makes carbide dies for .357 SiG.
 
I've got a P229 in .357 SIG that is now stored overseas, I've also had a P226 in .357 SIG. The P226 was absolutely dreadful, but it was one of the very first ones so it's probably not representative. The P229 is a good gun though. They're loud. More accurate than .40s generally speaking, at least in my experience. They also wear out faster than the equivalent gun in 9mm or .40S&W. Faster slide velocity, make sure to keep an eye on your recoil spring.

I've never used a Glock 31, but I've shot a lot of ammo through Glock 22s, and the recoil spring has never impressed me as being anywhere near as sturdy as the recoil spring in the P229.

Yeah, I have also a Wolff uncaptured guide rod with a 22# spring to deal with the .357SIG/.40S&W :p

This is going to be a sweet, all-around, multi-caliber, multi-restricted-fun-gun :D
