My Beretta came with two. Wholesale sells Beretta magazines for $60.

Do guys like to charge their mags before going to the range?

if you shoot IPSC you'll need 5 min. ,but for plinking I find 2 is enough, but more is better...;)

I just load them at the range.

I have 6 mags to use in 1911's (4 x 8rnd CMC and 2 x 10 rounders) and then for the others a minimum of 3, mostly around 5 or 6.

I don't travel with Loaded magazines...test case for the Anti's just waiting to happen if you do.

For how many.....
There's a couple of 'Formulas' I use.

5 Mags: 1 in gun, 4 in magpouches
6 Mags: 1 in Gun, 2 in Magpouches, 3 for a spare set
These two formulas I use for my 9mm 1911's.

For my HK P7M8's I kindof went a bit far...

3 guns with 2 mags each...I keep the mags in the box. I bought 3 used P7M8 magazines with a 10 pk of Wolff Magazine springs (range use mags). Then over a few months I bought 6 more NIB magazines. P7M8 magazines are so robust, unless you abuse them you just have to replace springs.

Other guns in my collection have between 2-4 mags each.

Of course I'm always of the mentality that if the Gov't ever shuts down import of guns/and parts, I'll have enough to keep going....'

P.S. You should see my spare parts box for my P7M8's...spent a fortune on those!

Give me a break! There is no law that says that mags have to be unloaded in transport or anywhere. The police know this so why would it ever even get to being a "test case for the antis"?

In the summer sure load them up at the range but in the cold of winter why not load them up in a heated home especially with some of the harder mags to load that can really hurt your fingers on the last few rounds? Heck, when I am running out of day light and going to the range, I will just load them up as I drive there.

How many mags? It totally depends on what I use the gun for. If it is just a 22LR then one or two is fine. If it is for IPSC and the like I think 7 is about the minimum. Sure you can get by with 4 but then it dictates where you have to do your mag changes. Of course always the more the better. If one seems to be having problems then you can just set it aside and figure it out later or use it as a stripper mag.

My 3 cents,

Fudd

10 x 10 for my Sig 9mm
12 x 8 for my Kimber 1911
and yes charged before going to the range. Saves time. Hint: I have found some tupperware type containers that hold the mags & mag loaders and fit perfectly on the bottom of my range bag. Get to the range, pop the lid and off you go.
No one should have to pay $60 for a magazine unless it's one of those fancy jobs for the full race pistols. I paid about $30 US for my super duper Kimber .45 Protacs and the same for my 9mm MecGar stainless Sigs

I understand what you are getting at but logically if you're travelling with ammo it doesn't matter if it's already in the mags or not. Some people go the extra mile and keep their loaded mags and other ammo in a separate locked container but that would be a personal choice and not a requirement.

yeah 5 is good
you can load up a box at a time (10rd)
its quite nice to be able to do this and shoot for a more extended length of time before reloading.
but thats just mo.

Minimum of 5 mags per pistol, which for the more rare pistols can be quite a challenge. Even managed to scrounge up 4 spare mags for my H&K P7PSP for a total of 5 mags. For the GB I had to buy 2 spare pistols to get 6 mags...
