How many mags do you have for your workhorse pistol?

I've only got two mags for my Hi-Power, but I'm not using it for any competitions or anything, I just own it to own it and take it out and shoot occasionally. I'll probably buy a couple more eventually, but other gun stuff is a higher priority right now. My Ruger MkI came with three and likewise, I don't shoot it enough to be in a hurry to buy more, in fact I may sell this pistol. I shoot my handguns much less than my long guns, and my revolver the most out of my handguns.

If I were carrying it for self-defense I think I would carry two or at most three spare magazines. If I thought I would need more than that I'd want to carry a long gun instead, and wouldn't stay in a situation where I couldn't.

If I were in th US, I'd be packing a Glock 17, factory night sights, Federal 147 gr. Hydra-Shocks, and around 7 mags all hi-cap 17-shot.

why on earth would you ever need 7 mags for carrying purposes? i carry a gun for a living and 3 x 15 rounds is most likely more than i will ever need.. most shootouts are over before changing mags is ever an issue..

if you need that many rounds to hit what you are aiming at i suggest learn to shoot a bit better. also for CCW id go for more than 9mm... .357sig would be my choice.

I have 4 for my Delta... wife has 5 or 6 for her CZ. But I have three holsters and two mag pouches... she only has one holster and a piss-poor excuse for a mag pouch... so it balances out :p

semi automatic firearms are useless without magazines.

Buy lots.

you'll kick yourself later.
If you think that the government cant take your guns away ... maybe not right now.
But they sure can limit your mags and ammo ... think about it.

Ask the two officers in LA who were fresh out of ammo(all three mags) in the first 3 minutes of the infamous bank of America robbery. I agree, 7 mags for carry is a but much. If you expect trouble on that level, get a long gun. Making hits doesn't translate into stopping the threat. Body armor, drugs, or poor hits all work against you.

"i carry a gun for a living and 3 x 15 rounds is most likely more than i will ever need.." I don't mean to bash and this isn't directed towards you(crunchiespg) but that statement is true for so many in uniform. Lack of SA and complacency gets many killed before they ever get a chance to shoot back.

i was thinking of the Band of America when i posted it, and thats why i said most. and i agree with everything you are saying. the reality with the BOA was 500 mags still wasnt enough, they just needed bigger guns. one .338LM would have sorted the job. but everything in life is a balance. personally i couldnt find space on my belt for 4 more mags. and short of a bank of america type job im confident i can stop the threat with my 45 rounds. and the OP was talking about 7 mags for CCW. i cant see when someone CCW would be involved in a BOA type shoot out. their most likely threat is a mugging.

and i agree a lot of uniforms lack skill, but that isnt the case fortunately for me and the people i work with.. im lucky to have been able to shoot over 10,000 rounds this year alone, all for free. and im certainly not complacent, not where i work.

True enough, BOA was a gong show from the word go. A patrol carbine with a competent operator would have solved the issue...Oh wait, it did!(SWAT actually). Seven mags for CCW is a little over the top. Then again, if you could swing it, go for it. I would opt for a long gun but that's just me.

Good on you for shooting lots and keeping your focus. Spread that disease to others in the profession.;)
