How many mags do you have for your workhorse pistol?

Alot of gun deals get parted out...I have 6 5/20 M14 mags with my m14s but it looks like I will have to strip her down as no one really wants to pony up the dough. Hence you see alotta mags in the EE section.

1st things first. Revolvers don't need mags. :D

I have 4 mags and no intention on buying more unless problems develop.

Minimum is 3 (even for the safe queen)

Minimum 6 if you use that gun(s) to play some games (Bulleye/PPC/IPDA)

If your GF/Wife use the same kind of guns, double that amount! Because while she might have enjoyed buying that pistol... she probably doesn't enjoy buying extra magazines and other accessories as much as you do ;)

6 x 8 round CMC and 3 x 10 round CMC for my MC Operator.

One sits loaded with JHP in my drawer, so I have 8 usable for the range.

Is there any reason to own more than 8?

Assuming of course no zombie outbreak or alien invasions?

I'm trying to figure out if i need more than 8 glock 17 mags for anything besides the fact that I like the way they all look fully loaded. It's not like there's room for many more on the firing line.

My opinion (TM)
Magazines are a wear item. Test them all for reliable function, then cycle through them (if for competition) or use 3 and keep 5 in reserve, purchasing replacements & testing as above on a scheduled basis (2 per year?).

As they wear out or fail function/visual inspection, discard them.

Most practical is three. One in the gun, and two spares. If I were in th US, I'd be packing a Glock 17, factory night sights, Federal 147 gr. Hydra-Shocks, and around 7 mags all hi-cap 17-shot.

I originally had 6 for my CZ Tactical Sport because I shoot IPSC with it. Then two of them started to act up after about 30,000 rounds, so I got two new ones. That was over a year ago. Today I just ordered two more, I can see a couple of the originals are showing some real wear. That puts me at 10 for this pistol now. I could probably get by with new followers and springs, but I prefer to go new. At least they aren't too much money, unlike those S*I or Tanfoglios. Yeah I said it! :nest: :runaway:

For my Inglis HP -3 just a once in a while fun gun
My M&P40 - 5 want a few more
My Gov't model 1 - 7 rnd original colt , 5 8 rnd wilsons and 6 8 round mccormicks
My 586 - 6 speed loaders - safariland comp II's
My ruger mk II - just one desperatly need a couple more in case of malfunction
Rest are just for fun guns 1 mag or are revolvers

If you shoot IPSC you ideally need 6 magazines per gun, 32 round maximum stages broken up to be revolver friendly means 5 shooting positions with 6 shots and one with 2 shots.
You can handle this with five magazines, but having a spare in case of a malfunction is wise.

Personally I have 12 mags for my Beretta 92fs, 5 for my Bul M5, 5 for my Glock 17, six Comp III & 2 HKS speedloaders for my S&W 66.
I have one magazine for my Beretta .22 conversion and one magazine each for my .22 & .17HMR rifles - none of those are used for games requiring fast reloads.

USPSA stages may have more than 32 rd per one. I once ran out of ammo by 1 round (2 more left in a dropped mag) at a stage with 38 min rounds (had 5x10rd mags) where some metal plates would not fall even after being hit more than once... I'd say, at least 7 mags :D
