How many of you hunt with single shots?

Crazy? Why? I think those people are just jelous that you have faith & confidence in only requiring one shot to take your game ;)
I too hunt with a .308 Encore, nice choice :)
 
I just bought a NEF Survivor in 223 from a member of the board, hoping to do a little coyote hunting after deer season wraps up.

O.k. I just spent today, first day of regular rifle season, trudging around a PFRA pasture with my No.4. :(
I think I want that Handi-Rifle for next year.

No.1 RSI in 7x57

No.1 Light Sporter in 9.3x74R

Merkel K1 or K3 Stutzen in whatever

Blaser K 95 Baronesse Stutzen in whatever

We subscribe to the K.I.S.S acronym, for beginners in our house.

Less to go wrong, keep the shots closer, and spend lots of time at the range practicing, with low recoil ammo.

I guess it pays off.;)

I had a #1B in a 300 WBY . It was very accurate . Averaged 1" @ 100 yds. I will be getting one again in 25-06 in stainless . You can get a wrist band shell holder and put it on your arm holding the forearm of the gun. It is very fast with some practice to get off a quick second shot.

I purchased a very nice Browning 1885 in 7mm RM from a member here - he is posting in this thread ;) -

I put in quit a bit of practice with it during the summer, and took it moose hunting a couple weeks ago. Saw 3 moose, but alas, I never got a good enough look for a shot I felt comfortable taking in the week I was in camp. :(
Maybe next year.

One thing though, after seeing grizz tracks on top of my tracks one morning, (everywhere I went, that bear was there too!), I really knew I was carrying a single shot rifle! :D

Only takes one shot to stop a grizzly if you do your part and in most cases you'll only have time for one shot... :D

Yup....in most cases you'll be lucky to get the one. After that, I appreciate how sturdy the single shot is as it makes a fine club! :D

No disadvantage with a single shot, that's for sure......just another option out there of the fine rifles available to hunters.
 
I've been hunting moose and deer exclusively with a Ruger #1 the last few years, and I know I personally shoot better with a single shot. It's a mental thing, I know, but it's true. If quick follow up shots are necessary, a slip on cartridge holder on the stock gives quick access for reloading.

The bad thing is the dang thing weighs about 11lbs and I'm still having back/shoulder spasms from carrying it during moose season.

Thats why I carry a #1 in 458 win mag for grizzly country. If nothing else I'm gonna put some kinda a big "dent " into em... even if it's the last thing I do..

For everything else.... I have six other singles to choose from.
