What type of scopes do you buy for your stainless rifles?

I've never liked the whole silver finish thing on scopes - and since most stainless rifles have black synthetic stocks, slings etc i always just put black matte scopes, rings and bases on the gun to make it even more low-key.

Made me wonder how many others do this as well, and how many only put silver finish hardware on their stainless guns.

Id be interested to hear your thoughts on matte vs stainless...
i mainly choose black matte everything just to cut down on glare, and because its hard to match silver finishes - some have a champagne tint, some are brushed, some too glossy. plus it lets you switch scopes with non-stainless rifles.

The scope, Rings and Base were at a price I couldn't resist......that made up my mind for me.

Personally I think silver scopes look "cheap". I know they are made of the same material but they just all look like plastic to me.

Matte black scopes, and I use black rings if I have to buy them, but on Ruger rifles, the stainless rings come wiht the rifles, so I use them.

I prefer black scopes, but on a stainless rifle, stainless rings don't look bad wrapped around the black optics either....as long as they aren't a funny tint as mentioned above.

Until I put it all together I wasn't sure if all silver was going to look good, but to me it does. Silver scope, rings and stainless barrel, but I wasn't able to find a silver base for the rings. It still looks good to me.

well after seeing the results so far i dont feel so bad for going all black optics/bases on my stainless. seems like (so far) 1/4 of people dont own a stainless gun... out of the remaining 75% twice as many put pure black or a combo of black optics/bases on them as people who only put silver finish optics.

i just havent been overly impressed with the 'silver finish' on a lot of the scope bases and rings, otherwise i do agree that stainless rifle, stainless bases + rings and black matte scope would probably look the best. its a shame that all companies dont actually make their 'silver' rings and bases out of stainless steel.

that said a lot of benchrest rifles with all silver hardware and a nice laminate stock look pretty sweet...
in the bush i try to keep my gun from being a giant mirror though :)

Your poll misses the obvious option: whatever is to hand. - dan
thats a copout :)
let me rephrase the poll then, since the majority of gun owners - if they had a scope and rings lying around - would probably use those first:
"when buying optics/bases for your stainless rifles what do you choose".

Alright, whatever scope I think will do the job, and whatever rings will fit properly, regardless of finish. Worrying about whether the "cuffs and collar" match on a rifle is pretty far down on my list of things to fuss over. How it works is way more important to me then how it looks. But that's just me. - dan

Agreed....but if you are buying new anyway.......

I always run black matte scope/black matte rings on a stainless gun. the only time I havent is on my 243 - stainless barrel, matte black scope, silver talleys
