How many on here shoot a 7x57?

Heym Mod. SR20, BRNO 21H, Oberndorf Model 'B' Pattern 110, and a over / under Marrochi, 12g x 7x57R. Great rifles, great cartridge. The Heym loves 140gr, the 21H and Oberndorf love 175's, and the Marrochi likes 154gr bullets.

Yes had one in a featherweight Win 70 push feed. Loved it but just not a good fit for me. Swapped it away. Got a Ruger 77 Mk 1 now just like MMA's, heavier but a better fit. Still shoot 6.5x55 more than 7x57. But with these two have never felt the need even for a 270. There isn't much you can't do with a 7x57. It's efficient and nothing in excess. For most shooting that most people do the magnums just hurt your ears and shoulder more. Not too many things on the receiving end will be able to tell the difference.

Here's my 22F in 7x57

I have a buddy coming to see me on Saturday.
He's bringing a Ruger #1 RSI to show me. I'll probably end up owning it by Saturday at noon (I hope, I hope).

1893 Mauser, I have shot about 10 moose with it, serial number under 600, sadly it is bubba'd, but a very reliable moose killer.

Zg57 7x57

I just picked this up locally. ZG47 made 1949 in 7X57. Drilled/taped for scope with altered bolt-handle. Has a 20 1/2" mint barrel. Other Brno 21's I've had were 23 1/2 I recall. Plan to carry this one this fall.

Longbranch -- what a nice nice rifle 21H! I love those round receiver, early BRNO's and yours looks like it is in fine shape. A 1949 I think I see?

A single trigger also -- does it still have 2 slots where the trigger goes through the bottom metal or does it have just the one trigger slot?

But when I see a weaver base screwed on.... I cry a little inside.

It will be one of your favorites.

I just bought a Winchester Model 70 XTR Featherweight in 7MM Mauser. I got it from Gunnar at Armco. Have not shot it yet but I can't wait to. I am looking for 175 grain round noses to load for it.

regards, Darryl

This ones been altered a bit, besides the Weavers and boogered bolt-handle, it has an adjustable trigger (Timney?) and has been glassbedded. So "a hunting it will go". I would have never had the heart to do what has already been done to it. Noticed the serial number stamped on stock when out of the wood. Anyone else seen one with a 20 1/2" barrel? Looks to be factory and not done after.

Oh yes - in the dovetail square bridge type of 21 - the 20 1/2 inch bbl was one of the ways it came from the factory.

There was the 20.5 inch half stock and the 20.5 inch full stock, the 23.5 inch half and the 23.5 full.

I myself have not seen a round top 20.5 inch but I suspect they existed in the same form as the longer bbl. I have seen a 23.5 inch full stock round top in 8x60S. So I suspect they came in all flavours.

Your right about the huntability now that it has been modified - but with good modifications.

BRNO configurations

21H - 23.5'' barrel, H stands for Half stock
21F - 23.5'' barrel, F stands for full stock

22H - 20.5'' bbl, half stock
22F - 20.5'' bbl, full stock

You have a 22H, not a ZG47!

joey is correct -- hmmm.... there was a time I would have worried about those details. Now I call them all 21H.
(but i did not see Longbranch called it a ZG47 which it is not!)

First rifle I hunted with was a tang safety 77 in 7mm Mauser that belongs to my grandfather. I ended up borrowing it for a couple hunts with guys other than my grandpa, who had no appreciation for the finer things in life. I told them i was hunting with a 7mm, and they always asked to see a round. I would pull one out and nine times out of ten, would get a look of confusion. These were all guys who had only heard of the 7mm Rem Mag.:D

One guy even told me that if we see one way out there, he would lend me his 300 Win Mag, cause it will reach out and touch em:kickInTheNuts:

I shot a magpie at 200 just to shut him up.:D

Now excuse me while i call grandpa and see if i can pry that gun from him.:p

Why do some believe a 6.5x55 is so much better than a 7x57?
Asking for honest opinions as I don't understand.

Personal preference, that's all. In a lot of respects they're very similar: light recoil and bark, wonderful accuracy, very good "knock down" power, and, former milsurp stuff in great condition is readily available at reasonable prices.

I'm a great fan of these old, ordinary cartridges: 6.5 x 55;7 x 57, and, you can add .270 to that list. Gentle at one end, hell at the other.

I wouldn't feel undergunned anywhere on this continent with any one of this trio.

My 7x57 is a 1951 Vintage ZG-47. 139 gr Hornady Interbond and a stout charge of H4350for 2900+ fps filled my freezer quite nicely this fall :)

Actually, to be honest I did refer to it as a ZG47 at first. I thought the square-bridge one's were called "21H,F etc and early round receivers being ZG47's. I stand corrected. Recently I had a very nice 21H that I got talked out of by another member and 25 years ago had a 21F, both being 7X57's. I swear I'll keep this little fella. Island-Outfitter's here in Victoria has a 21H, single trigger,7X57. Nice stock with beadblast/blued metal for $750.00 if anyone's interested. Should be some "wiggle room" in there.
