How many on here shoot a 7x57?

With quite a few responses to the 270 thread, which I am in agreement is a great chambering, I thought it might be interesting to get some owner's opinions on the 7x57 Mauser.
I have a M700 "Classic" in this fine chambering. While it is not a 270, it will do just about anything the venerable 270 will, albeit not quite as flat shooting. The 7x57 is gentle on the shoulder, yet effective on pretty well all North American big game. Let's have it gunnutz! What's your take on the 7x57?
Regards, Eagleye.

I believe the 700 classic you have is my fathers gun, you just bought it recently no? 7x57 is my favourite caliber. I have a BSA hunter, a BRNO 22H and my father has a husky 4100 featherweight so-chambered. 175gr roundnose is your best friend!

7x57mm

I have a tangsafety Ruger 77 in 7x57 picked up off the original EE here when CGN first got rolling. Is in just like new shape. I have never hunted with it. Haven't worked up a load for it. But it can do 5/8" 3 shot groups with old factory Dominion 139 gr JSP's.

Also, have a full wood long barrel military Brazilian 1908 Mauser 7x57mm that is very pristine with a matching bayo, but I don't plan on shooting it anytime soon. ;)

Well I've got 2 of them as well. Haven't had enough time to hunt with either one yet, but a Husky 4100 from Why Not and a Ruger 1A made it into the safe over the last year. Really is a nice package in a light weight gun, that 175 RN should bore through just about anything.

I found one 7x57 cartridge in among some 6.5x55 cartridges that I scavenged from a local Gunshow a few months back.

So I guess this means I might have to get a rifle in 7x57 Mauser someday. :D

7x57

I'll be taking a Whitworth Mauser in 7X57 on my second trip to Alberta for Elk/deer in November. I also have a Ruger No.1 RSI in 7X57 as well as several original military Mausers in this caliber.

I had a Husky Featherweight 7x57 for years....beautiful, smooth rifle.
Unfortunately it had a slow-twist barrel, wouldn't stabilize a bullet heavier than 150 gr., and was over a pound and a half heavier than my 700 Mtn.Rifle in 270. :(

always wanted one, preferably a BRNO 21H, although if i where to come across a Sedgeley Springfield, i' guess i'd have to sell a kidney. will probably just settle for a rebarreled 98 or a Ruger until i win the lottery

Model 54 in 7MM and it shoots just fine with a peep site, has not been drilled for a scope, it is an old meat gun from the family with very few rounds through it and I wouldn't think twice about using for any big game out there, 7X57 has killed most if not all the big game in the world at one time or another. Just my thoughts.

Well I happen to have a .270 and a 7x57. Of all my rifles they are my favorite, partly because of the lack of magnum-like recoil and also because they are great shooters. the 7x57 is an old military mauser 98, passed down to me through family. I shoot 139 grn hornady SSTs and those light magnums can really make the 7x57 bark. It's a very short and light rifle which makes it very nice to carry around in the bush. So far I've taken 3 deer and a bear with it. Love it.

I gots one of them BRNO 21H's with twin triggers and it's a shooter.50gr RE22/160gr bullet /win cases and Fed mag primer makes one hole then 140gr/49gr Win 760 same case and primer one hole ......................................shot my best WT with this combo...........Harold

IMO, 7x57 is one of the best cartriges out there.
In fact, only 6.5x55 is better than it.
I wish I still had a gun in 7x57....

PS It's a sacrilege and a sin to compare
the great 7x57 with that 270 abortion puke.

I finally rounded up a 7x57 Husqvarna(1955) this year. In reality, it was about the furthest thing I needed in my safe but I am very happy that I had a chance to add it.

I have not had any time to hand load for it yet, but Noels hand load recipe has been showing very good results so far. Good enough for MOD(minute of deer) :sniper:

7X57s

I have a Ruger No1 AB model in 7X57

My 7x57 is one built by Rembo, it's a Rem 700 action with a mountain contour Bevan King stainless barrel. It sits in a factory Mountain rifle synthetic stock. It's a wonderful light weight rifle, and shoots Nosler 150gr Ballisitic Tips into less than an inch. So far I've taken two muledeer and one whitetail with one shoot each. It would be going out again this year, but the scope decided to give up and now the lenses are rattling around inside, so until I get that fixed the .270 is going to get the nod, otherwise, I'd be carrying it again this year.
