I've been with my wife for 33 years and every year she gives me her blessing to enjoy the thing I love doing the most. We "never" had a problem regarding hunting as long our children had love, care, food, water, clothing and shelter. Thats to say the least. In other words, "family first" before anything else!!!
How many others have wives that hate you going hunting?

My wife does not like hunting. However, the key to a lot of things is compromise. Early in our relationship she learned that hunting was simply part of who I was and that was not going to change. The same goes for aspect about her as well. Over time both sides compromised and a balance evolved. Sure there were some rough patches but that's a given.
This time of year I just do my thing keeping family and work commitments in mind of course. So far it has worked ( 25 years and counting )
One of the first things I can say to any fellow who hunts and meets a new significant other. If that person is dead set against hunting develop a mutual understanding right away in the relationship. If the time comes to answer the question " Choose me or hunting " it's best to get that bridge crossed early. If you give up something you love for someone you love it can only bring you grief later on. A long term relationship has to be built on compromise rather than one side calling all the shots. If I had to cross the bridge of " Me or hunting" I think I'd still be eating venison today. Some one who truly cares about you would not make you give up hunting regardless of their personal opinion about it.

I just want to point out, it's fairly simple to get along with me as a partner:
- Don't cheat on me.
- Don't live paycheck to paycheck, expect the unexpected, live within your means.
- Deal with the fact I'm a Tim Taylor / Red Green cross-type. No, I will not change for you.
- Don't expect me to foot all your bill, unless you just recently popped me out a kid.
- Lastly, keep your jealousy in check. No one wants to go home with the 5'9", 212lbs. bus driver tonight.
My wife hates me hunting so much that she went and got her hunting liscence self study at home with the BC CORE book I have layin around and she went and challenged the exam. I shot a real nice 4x4 mulie today. Left the house at 4:55 to go to a friend's down the road for turkey dinner. 1/2 way there and my 9th thanksgiving day buck crossed the road and I jumped out of the jeep and followed. He made it 75 yards into the birch and willows and me and my 7mm mag made it within 50 yards for a clean double lung shot.
I dropped the wife off at work at 3:00 after hunting all day. She IS gonna be pissed at me when she sees the deer hangin in the garage. I ain't tellin her till she gets home. She's gonna be mad she wasn't with me

Yup - same here - but she does like ground venison for her chili, and how the kids rave about rabbit cacciatore, and grouse in pepper sauce, and the odd bear sausage... but she doesnt want me to kill anything ! LOL!!
She is at least a great range partner (most guys look at her with horror as she unleashes 50 rounds rapid fire - ON TARGET - with her 10/22) and a great fly fisher -er - woman....
My girlfriend doesn't have an issue with me hunting. She comes with sometimes and wants to get a deer. My only issue with her is how much she gets pissed off when I buy a gun. She gives me hell and she's a girlfriend, all our finances are separate. It makes me scared to marry her because I'm afraid I'll always get hell for buying toys.
I'll also say I like to buy guns, but I'm not financially irresponsible. I have zero debt, pay all my bills, have money for a rainy day and I still catch hell. The reason is the woman is sooooo cheap herself. Has no more than a few sets of shoes, 2 pairs of jeans that she only replaces when they wear out, one inexpensive purse/bag and she never spends money on herself. I think this is a good thing because she saves like crazy and doesn't spend money frivolously, but there is too much of a good thing. I hate having the money to buy a gun that has caught my eye and having to think "I can't because she would be too pissed off."

So, is there anything the two of you need to get with the money before you need to buy a new gun?
The questions should be about what do the two of you need first, then, if there is nothing on which to spend the money, it becomes discretionary. But is she pissed because she sees places it should go for both of you, rather than you spending it on you? Or is she just controlling, stingy, and manipulative?
In one case you need to become more "responsible"; in the other, you need to leave.
My wife is my best friend and we treat each other with love, respect and courtesy. We help each other attain happiness in any way we can.

I never understood the whole "wife won't let me" or "wife doesn't want me to buy another gun". I'm not married, but had long term relationships, and I definitely wouldn't date or even live with someone who had an issue with my purchases or activities. If they don't like it .. they know where the door is. You can tell I'm a single dude
I had aGF once whom i was pretty close to marrying. She was a vet student. One day she told me it was the trapping that had to go or her (this was right after the infamous seal incident).
Long story short -- after renouncing trapping and semi-reconciling (shagging when around each other), I met another woman who didn't care. She wasn't for or against, but willing to accept me for who I am and learn what I know.
The ex then came from PEI to visit me in Stettler for a "rendezvous" . I never showed up because I made the last second choice to go with the new girlfriend and meet her parents for Thanksgiving.
