How many people have a 870 marine magnum

I assume you can use standard 870 barrels on the MM? Say if you wanted to shoot some trap in addition to having a sweet zombie gun?

Bought my MM six years ago - its completely stock, only thing I ever bought for it is ammunition. I carry it on a single point sling when I'm fishing waaaaaay back in the woods.

So if this is the official MM site, are we going to get a secret handshake? How about some cute acronym for us? :p

well, im oficialy a memeber of the marine magnum club. i know this is an old thread but i just thought id share.
id post pics, but i have no camera, and its just a plain out of the box (as of 5 minutes ago) 870 marine magnum.

one question though, in the box there was a little green thing that could pull apart and looked almost like a little brush, but it was plastic. its about 2" long. any idea what it is?

thanks,
Joe

Is it shaped like a lil J? I think its the J lock key for the safety as the previous post mentioned.... otherwise I have no clue what your talking about without a pic.

ah i bet thats it

well, it kicks, but not as bad as i thought
its pretty fun actuly. i put about 25 rnds though it before it was time to leave.

now for cleaning it, the patches i have to fit tite against teh bbl, but it dosnt look like there is much there for dirt any way. i guess just whipe it down and oil the bbl?

i tried out the green thing. it is indeed a J lock key. is there any way to get rid of the J lock safty? it seems like a stupid thing to have if i plan on using the gun for a bear gun.

on another note, the second day out with it the recoil seemed less noticable and more normal. i found that using the 'pull forward on the forend' method to work quite well.
now i need to take some pics.

thanks for the help,
Joe

After trying some skeet shooting (handthrowing in a sand pit redneck style) in a light on and off drizzle/the rain, my Stoger SxS and 870 express Supermag combo rusted to all hell in the time it took me to pack up, have dinner, then drive back home (4hours). I spend 5 hours the next day rubbing the rust off and cleaning and oiling my poor poor babies. My ruger 22 stainless is still in perfect condition. i love it.

I'm so pissed. If I didn't know better, I would say remmy makes the 870 express out of a special steel that was designed to rust easily. I'm sure pretty soon you'll hear it refered to as the "biodegradable gun" for nature lovers!

I'm now saving for the REM 870 MM, but I wanna know from owners here how well does it hold up to rust? What parts are not nickel finished? Inside, bolt, springs, bits, dooodads??? Just how durable is it? I don't think I'll ever buy a non stainless/nickel weatherproof gun ever again.

I've had mine for many years, had it in -40C weather, in rain, just left to dry off with a wipe down, action open to climatize in room temp. The pics in this thread were taken the shortly before they were posted. I bought the gun in 1998.

I'd say it holds up pretty good to rust. :D

I bought mine in 1996...it still looks as good as new (better now that it has a single point sling). I have hiked in the rain, shot in the rain, dropped the thing in a brook...and yet, no rust:dancingbanana: .
Best shotgun you'll ever get...long live the Marine Magnum:)

I'll try to get a pic of mine up on tuesday from work.... bought mine about four years ago now,

addded
Leopold scope mount
Bushnell holosight (compact model)
Wilson precision choke tubes (had it threaded at the local smiths with no problem)
OD green cheek pad to raise the cheek weld for the holosight.

Hopefully changing the scope mount to a full length pic rail so I can have the holosight in the middle and ghost rings on the rail as well, also adding a pelican M6 tac light with pressure switch when I get the time to pick the switch and mount up......

Awsome shottie, I'm glad I went with this one... and yes it is a multi use, 3-gun shoots, skeet, trap, upland bird, rabbits.. pretty much anything that doesn't require a camo gun....

have a good one!

Just got mine on Friday; went in looking for a 870 Express 18" Synthetic, but got wowed by the MM. My recreational budget for the next few months is kind of blown, but as my wife said when I showed it to her, "Oh my god! It's beautiful!" She is a pearl among women.

I'll be taking it out back to try it out in a little while.

well done a good idea getting the MM
only think i would do to it is change the stocks for a houge or speed feed, put wilson combat sites on it and put on a singe point sling plate and sling.
other then that i think the MM is the best pump gun going.
