I mean , why is it that bad?
Since you've had a few answers, but nothing that explains the reaction, I'll try and explain it for you. We fought long and hard to get rid of the LGR (Long Gun Registry), and most on here feel that as law-abiding gun owners that have jumped through all the hoops (and given up some of or rights to be gun owners) that it is none of the governments business how many firearms we own.
We also know that both the government and the media cruise this sight and others, compiling what they can for information - generally to use against us in the media, or to justify some new law or crusade.
We are also somewhat security conscious. There are individuals (and the government) that have the ability to determinbe your physical location from your IP address. Go ahead and tell us exactly how many guns you have, and that way when you become the target of a break-in, the bad guys (or the government, for those that are a little paranoid) will know that they have managed to get all of your firearms.
Now we have a gun-grabbing government in Ottawa. They are prohibiting some guns, rumors are they will go after more. They are punishing the MOST law-abiding people in the country, claiming that they are going after gangs. They are targeting us as a way to make the left feel all fuzzy, but we aren't the problem.
Are we all a little paranoid - You bet. Do we have a reason to be - DEFINATELY! Those of us that have been around for a while have watched the government lie to us time and again when it comes to firearms legislation. We have watched them "confiscate" our guns through grandfathering and prohibiting them. (we didn't confiscate it!!! You still own it! Yeah, but we can't take it out of the house. We can't shoot them, even at the range, because the CFO will not issue us an ATT. We can only sell them to others with the proper 12X class, so that gun that we paid $5K for is now worth about $899, if we're lucky) We have watched them destroy the financial investment that we have in them, by making them prohibited.
SO YES! When you come on here as a newbie and ask this kind of question, everybody gets a little edgy. And with the new Bill C-71 in the works, we have seen a lot more of these type of questions lately.
