How many rounds a month do you shoot?

Unless you're a Mountie, then you only get 100 rounds per year... I mean, the government wouldn't want the members to hurt themselves, now....

100 rounds per year that is in ONE session, had a chat with one of em, he complained there was low to no firearm training every year once you're out of school.

Well i just started shooting IPSC and shoot three times a week. That is about 300 - 500 rounds a week. Therefore.. i started reloading and am having a blast.. Get a Dillon progressive press and your cost goes down by 1/3 if you shoot lead.... Thats all i have to say..

If you're going to shoot volume you have to accept that you're going to be reloading - I've never met anyone in the last 20 years who shot high volumes (of centrefire ammo) and used factory ammo (military shooters excepted of course)

Yeah, I already figured out that I'm looking at reloading REAL soon. Going to get Christmas out of the way along with a few other projects and then look at setting up an area to do this.....

.... How about on the bench next to the two grinders I use for metal working.... :D

I'm starting to wonder about my self, after reading all these posts I have come to realise that I shoot way more then adverage. I try and make it out both days of the weekend and pop off 300 - 500 rounds of .22lr or 9mm or a combination of both. No I don't reload at this time but I think I had better look in to it. So if you work it out on the low end I shoot 2400 rounds a month

2Labs, from your post count I'd say you're as new to this as I am? Don't discount the newbie enthusiasm factor. It may wear down somewhere along the way.

And like you I'm hoping to mix in a healthy dollop of .22. I've already started in fact. And considering we can buy .22 for not much more than the cost of just center fire primers it makes great sense to shoot lots of .22 for practice.

In my case I know I'll be getting into .45 auto, .357 revolver and likely get a .44 Mag just to play with some big flashbang rounds for fun and giggles. The 9mm will likely remain as my most used center fire or perhaps I'll get into shooting IPSC standard with .45. Not sure yet. The revolvers will mostly just for fun so they likely won't see much more than a 10th of the shooting that the semis will.... at least that's the plan for now. This being about as firm as water.... :D

Becuase it's new.... and they are so SHINEY!

Yeah, it's been a real hit to the pocket book so far. But I'm going to ease off to more like one outing a week or so. Or at least cut back the amount I shoot at each outing. Getting a couple of .22's into the collection will help a lot as well. And reloading will be set up likely in the early Spring so that'll cut down the long term expense.

It's hard to hold back those pistols though.... :D

I go to the range every second wednesday (its club night but I work every second week) and I ussually shoot 50-100 .22 slow fire to practice my trigger work and precision, then I'll fire 1-2 boxes of centre fire either .38. .40 or .45 or a combination depending on which guns I brought along. In the summer if the guys are having an IPSC practice or playing with the falling plates it may go up to 4-5 boxes of centre fire per visit
So i'd say 200-400 per month in the winter and maybe 400-1000 month in the summer. wish I had the time and cash to shoot more.

I don't shoot 1000 rounds in a year!! How the hell do you guys afford to spend $500 a month on ammo?

If you reload, 1,000 rounds of 9mm works out like this:
1,000 124grn lead bullets = $95
1,000 primers = $40
1Lb W231 = $30 (7,000 grn to the Lb about 4 grn/round)

If it cost closer to $165/1,000 you'd shoot more, wouldn't you (I bet you start picking your brass up now :D, my apologies to whoever has been picking up your brass 'til now)

6,000-8,000 of centerfire per year. Monthly rounds downrange depend on how many matches I shoot that month and what new guns I have to build a load for.
