Looking for other canadian Mini 14 owners. How many rounds have you put through your Mini 14 before major parts failures or if any? Cant trust the guys at PU. Lots of talk on broken firing pins. Dont concern me much as I have much success in this pin design in my M14 and M1 Carbine. Just want to have an honest answer!:D

Well I never counted but I got an early one back in the late 70s or early 80s, I put thousands of round thru it with not a glitch. Best gun action I ever owned, always regret selling it!

My first one, purchased around 1977, probably had between 6000 and 6500 rounds through it when I sold it. No problems at all. I've had several more since then, all with much lower round counts, and have a Target model now. I've only experienced one problem: One of my earlier models (not the one with a high round count) suffered a broken magazine retaining pin, which was repaired on the spot, while I waited, by a local 'smith. Another, the first one with a synthetic handguard, needed a tiny bit of material shaved off the bottom of the guard to prevent occasional interference with the charging handle...a 60-second Swiss-army-knife repair.

Minis are fun.:)

I have owned two (still on second). With the first about 300 rounds. With second one, about 500 rounds. Replaced the handguard, because it looked goofy, with an M14 style - now is one cool looking piece.

I bought a used one and I have about 2000 rounds through it. I don't know what the previous owner put through it. No problems yet.

I recall reading an article some years back about a shooting school in the US who tried to see how long one would go without cleaning...seems to me they put something like 4000 rounds through it before it gagged on its own crud and gave the first FTF.

I've had a half dozen over the years...still have three...never had a failure of any kind that I recall. I've had a couple of stinkers that wouldn't do better than 3 moa, but most shot pretty well. I now have one that's a solid MOA rifle right out of the box with no mods whatever, the others are 1.5 - 2 moa guns.

A couple years ago I would have called BS, but I'm almost embarrassed to admit for fear of being called a liar the last one I bough (581 series) struggled to do worse than 1.5 MOA with ammo it liked. It would do 2" with almost anything too- I was converted.

Seems like the Mini's run pretty reliable. I honestly did not do my homework before buying and ended up with a skinny barreled early 580's but i'm still happy!! I read all about the "un-accurate" issues but it didnt bother me...figured it couldnt be worst than my worst sks(norc built from spare parts). As for reliability at the 500 round count, I have not had any issues with my Mini except one mag failure(tapco..follower failed) which I discarded. With factory loads, I was getting consistent 3" groupings at 100 yrds using Win.Sup. 55 gr. NBT. I switched up and reloaded my own 60gr NBT and the groupings have shrunk to avg of 2", 5 shot groups. I dont care about the haters, say what they want.....I didnt buy it to compete against an AR nor am I comparing it to an AR......At least I can the Mini hunting!!! lolz:D

My friend has a Mini14 and he has killed many Sask coyotes with it. Its a fun gun to shoot. Im seriously thinking of buying one soon as the registry is dead. My friends is just a plain jane wood stock version. Fun gun.
