I see lots of talk about this pistol has this many rounds through it and that pistol has that many.... But how many is considered to many?

What round count would YOU walk away from?

This isn't of much help for pistols but WWII battleship guns needed to be rebarreled after 200 rounds. The Italian high velocity 15 inch guns had to be rebarreled after 100. And that 1000 mm super gun that Gerald Bull (a Canadian, BTW) was designing for Sadam Hussein in Iraq would have had to be rebuilt after six shots. Of course it wasn't a weapon, it was a satellite launch system.

I always laugh when the documentaries say that guns sole use was for launching satellites. Yup, I'm sure thats what Sadam was going to use it for.

Some .22's out there have tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of rounds down the pipe and are in good shape.

Its all about the particular situation and individual gun.

I have untold thousands through my target guns, but I only shoot mouse farts though them.

If I took my 586 and switched from a weak .38 special load of 3.7 grains of 231 behind a 158 grain LSWC to a hotrod .357 with a heavier, jacketed bullet, then wear would become an issue. As it is right now, I doubt that I will live long enough to wear it out, and I am anything but old still! SO how many rounds do I have though it? Who cares!!
