How Many Rounds?

A box of shells per gun. Most towns in northern ON will have somewhere to buy ammo if you need it for the common calibres

You won’t find 44 Magnum in any of the small towns up there:p.
I have two magazines for most of my hunting firearms and I fill them both and go, 8 shots should be more than enough. This way if I lose one I have the other and not a hard to load single shot, don’t ask how I figured that out. If you’re away I take one box (20) for each firearm, a box of shotgun shells, and a brick of 22. If you score early it’s nice to do some target practice with the 22.

I would bring a box... I have dropped a gun from standing to the hardwood floor & required resighting... The 10 point I shot AFTER sighting the rifle back in, is sitting on my living room wall...

Like clothes, you can't put it on if you don't got it!

Cheers
Jay

Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Bring a box. This will be my first year hunting...I'll be bringing more than a box lol.

I usually carry 10 out into the bush, but always take at least 50 on a trip. The way I figure it I can lose every round I take into the bush every day and still have more (Always plan for the worst case)

This. Nothing ruins an expensive hunt faster than having an empty rifle. I guarantee if you shoot a .270 everyone will have everything but 270.

So unless you're in good enough shape to run your deer down pack plenty of extra ammo.

My rifle does not have a removable mag. I carry 4 rounds in each front pocket of my bibs and 4 in each pocket of my hunting coat. This way no matter what pocket I reach into I will have a handful of ammo to load into my rifle, and not a chap stick, lighter and cigar. I also carry another 20 rounds in my backpack.

We had one guy in our group lose one of his magazines through a hole in his pocket. The next day he lost his only other magazine out of the same hole. As luck would have it a few other guys in the group had the same type of rifle and loaned him another magazine that he didn't lose. A couple years before that the same guy only took 1 mag into the bush with him. After firing all 4 shot at a small bull moose, the moose was down but not dead and he was out of ammo. Another guy had to finish it off.

Ten for a day or two, twenty for more than that.

Rifle shots make great distress signals, not to mention all the small game that can be hunted if you're in the mood.

I take 4 in the mag and an additional 4 in the loops of the sling. Whatever's left of an MTM 50 box stays in camp or the truck.

That's for each rifle. I have had to change scopes on one elk trip, and resighting would had to have been done on factory ammo, changing everything I knew about the rifle based on practice shooting before the trip.

Hunting around the family farm I carry five in the gun and an extra mag of four on my belt. If I'm hunting on foot in the boonies, I carry the same amount but add a full box to my pack.

Ammunition doesn't go bad and you are either flying or driving so there is no reason not to bring 2 boxes with you (~ aircraft limit last time I flew). Daily carry limts are a different matter though. 1-3x your magazine amount is reasonable, depending on your type of shooting and risk tolerance.

Usually, 5 in my gun, stock holder holds 9 and I have a fold out belt pouch that holds two rows of 7. I never intend on needing more than 1 or two, but if I slip and break my leg, I want the rest of camp to find me sooner. 3 ten seconds apart each, then again in a few minutes is pretty hard to miss.

lol. Ive seen it in a few places you wouldnt expect it. I can get it locally in Muskoka (which is North to some I suppose). Its also pretty popular in the North East.
