so! i am a college student and i am going to the "big city" aka Calgary for school shopping annnnnnd well lots of gun shopping! i was looking to see what you guys think is a good amount of ammo to have on hand for each caliber?.

As much as you can afford. I keep a min number on hand of all calibres I'm content with. When inventory gets to that point I buy more. Personally for me my mins are 9mm - 500pcs. 223- 500pcs. 12ga-100pcs. 22lr 1000pcs. Once I hit those levels I buy more. Usually case quantities.

as long as I have 40 of my Deer hunting rounds I am happy, once I get down to 20 I reload a bunch.

I hunt a lot but shoot not often.

I always keep one year supply for each caliber, if there is good deal along the way, i will hoard up ( not many deals, no more but you never know when a little 10% will pop up )... JP.:)

It's an investment with the way it keeps going up I'm glad I hoarded when 22lr was reasonable like 19 bucks for 500 and good ammo like Remington yellow jackets. Norinco at 250 or under for a crate of 223 can't say I regret being poor for a couple months here and there. If I have to sell it should be easy if it's priced under what it sells for at the store. Literally did better then precious metals with brass and lead. It doesn't go bad either. Buy it cheap stack it deep!

Civil Advantage has a good YouTube video explaing a reasonable amount of ammo to have on hand . But like others have said , buy as much as you can afford . The price will only keep going up .

If are in college or school of any type your money can't be limitless.

1/. Living expenses
2/. School expenses
3/. Got a couple hundred in reserve for surprises?
4/. You decide what your social life looks like...beer and pizza with classmates, or a girl/woman, or trigger time. Any money not required for 1/2/3 can be considered discretionary.

Don't forget you may have to relocate to a job after graduation...which will also require money.

Played this game...shot IPSC while in school. Lots of meals out of parents fridge.

If you are a student paying your way through university and you don't have an inheritance, everything not related to paying for your education and room and board is a LUXURY.

So what ever ammo you can afford after paying for the essentials plus savings is what I'd recommend.

After you graduate and start earning then stock up.
