How much can different primers effect load?

I have been using CCI primers as of late, however while digging through my brass bins I found a bin of about 150 winchester rpimed cases.

Would it be reasonable to load these to the same load I have been using with the CCI primers? Or can a primer drastically effect pressures?

Thanks.

My LR primers are sometimes jumbled up. Winchester, CCI, Federal, whatever I happened to find handy. I shoot lighter loads, cast bullets for the most part, so I don't notice any difference.

I doubt you could measure a difference.

There's the key. Unless you used a VERY accurate rifle with VERY consistent loads you won't likely be able to measure the differences made by different primers. There will be differences, but for most situations they will be irrelevant.

The only time I have almost blown up a gun was when I reworked a load up using CCI 350s in place of 300s. Despite backing off a few grains the start load had violent recoil and threw the casings over into the next county. I have never had any issues with rifles though.

American Rifleman had an article years ago on component swapping in 30-06 loads. They changed bullets and primers and if I remember right cases as well and recorded measured pressures and velocities.

Sometimes there was no change. Sometimes there was higher or lower velocity. Sometimes there was higher or lower pressure pressure. Sometimes there was higher pressure without a corresponding higher velocity. Sometimes the different variations stacked and sometimes they cancelled each other. out guessing a pressure barrel proved hard. As aside, the pressure indicators that we all know and love proved to be a lousy guess at what the actual numbers were.

I know if you back off loads and work up again you stay out of trouble.

I only load for 45 long colt at this point, so they are large pistol primers. Winchester primers are rated for both regular and magnum loads. CCI has separate primers for regular vs magnum. I can tell the difference easily between a Winchester primer and a CCI magnum primer... but I can't tell the difference between that same Winchester primer and a standard CCI primer.

So, in a round about way.... I think there must be a few differences here and there. But in your rifle reloads, I have no experience to offer since 45 long colt is a pistol load even through my rifles.
