How much do you baby your SKS?

I'm just curious how ppl treat their Sks. I personly paddle with mine I needed lol. I just clean it after shooting but that's as far as babying it goes lol. Thinking I might pick up Trophy one that I won't use, unless zombies attack of course.
 
I treat my firearms like my children...equally except for the ones that are the favourite:D
Seriously, pretty much like the others, they usually all go places together and shoot one after the other. Except, it gets a little more TLC when it comes time to clean.
 
It's a SKS, cheap to buy & feed. I just pour a quart of very hot water down the barrel then clean like any other rifle. Back into the safe until the next time. I don't "baby" a firearm any more or less as any other tool I own.
 
ya I just see some ppls pics of their sks's and thier like pristine, mine looks like a sks should all beat to #### hahaha
 
Depends. My 55/6 is my shooter, I shoot the Izzy from time to time, and I haven't shot the non-refurbs yet. I keep them all clean, so I wouldn't say they won't all be fired, but I only take 1 SKS to the range at a time so I just take the same one usually.
 
I shoot mine then douche it down with g96 , throw it in the safe
and clean it the night before I go shooting ! It's s 200 dollar gun and they
are everywhere so if mine gets toasted I'll just buy another one.!
 
The paddle comment can be pretty true for me, I normally strap it on the front of the quad when im going out in the bush quading.
SKS gets full of mud and the likes, its a $200 gun that I can roll the quad and wreck in the bush without caring.


But at the same time when I clean it up I make sure everything gets wiped off perfectly, and EVERYTHING is oiled including a nice film over the whole gun to make it shine.
 
My SKS is my most recent purchase. I treat it the same way I treat the rest of my belongings... with care. I like my things to be nice, so I treat them that way.

Just because a SKS is inexpensive, and readily available does not mean I treat it with less care then any thing else.

It does get cleaned after every trip though...
 
I shoot them and clean them just like any other, though I clean the SKS a little more carefully (you know why). They're shooters, not queens...including my non-refurb '50 Tula.
 
I have 5 russians and 1 chinese. My chinese and my beatup russian 1956 are shooters. My unissued 1953, my excellent unrefurb 52 and my 2 1949(1 with blade bayo and the other with spike) are alls greased for very long term storage unless we got invaded:D Will get fews more in the upcoming months if money permit:)

My first SKS ('54), a mild refurb in a beautifully refinished 50's laminate stock, is treated like a newborn but enjoyed, my second SKS ('52), another mild refurb that now sits in a black Tapco stock, is a consistent 3" grouper at 100 metres, and gets well used but well treated. My last SKS, an unissued and unrefurbished '51 beauty is in a state of preservation and gets treated like a preemie under a heat lamp! I have since sold a few other pieces, choosing to only keep 3 SKS's -- as my gun locker is simply too crammed with other love interests.

I don't understand how anyone can claim unissued status on a 55 year old+ military firearm with no papers from another country. I'm not trying to start an argument, but I'd like to know what these "unissued" claims are based on.

X2. The only way I could see getting your hands on an "un-issued" or "un-fired" SKS as so many claim, would be to buy a new Chinese production one. I have a very nice 55/56 production Tula, blued, silver bolt, laminate stock, not franken-pinned etc. It is all numbers matching and appeared nearly new when I got it, but I had never given any thought to it being a safe queen. I clean the hell out of it after shooting and bath it in G96 like all my guns, but that is it.
 
All valid points, and ultimately, there is no "proof" to substantiate "unissued", except thorough inspection to determine any wear. Mine could be an extremely lightly used example, and not unissued. However, I bought mine from CGN member: Weimajack who has personally handled and inspected a thousand + Russian and Chinese SKS's. If he says "unissued", I believe him. Sometimes, you have to go with the advice of expert opinion. Perhaps its a form of blind faith. ;)
 
I hardly ever shoot my unrefurbed '55 Tula or my '50 refurbed laminate Tula. I have a Chicom that I use at the range or in the bush. The Chuwood doesn't show dings or scratches as much as the varnish on the Russkies.
I clean for corrosive of course, with lots of water/windex while I'm at the range, and a more thourough cleaning at home.
 
i should be getting my chinese 56 today or tomoro from Marstar.. it well be my first new gun that ill treat really good. i bought an old cooey model 60 just to hold me over tell the SKS gets here. already got a box of 7.62 and some snappies so i can chamber something when it gets here..im even genna enjoy cleaning the cosmo off!!!!! can't freakin wait.. what a great all around gun.
before i got into guns i though the sks was a mistake maid before the AK but after coming to CGN my mind changed very quike. now i love the damn things!! having a new all matching parts chinese sounded really good to me. i can get russian refurbs here in town for the same price, acualy the chinese comes with a case but no cleaning kit:( oh well 10 bucks no big deal.. but i like new!
