so, how much one handed practice do you do with your pistol?

I ask because I dont see much of it at all, and when I do its usually just someone doing it for fun, rather then attempting to build up their skill level.
 
One hand is the only way to build REAL skill with a handgun. In addition, this is the ONLY way that one will ever get to shoot in the Olympics or in Grang Prix events. Even in the USA, the NRA conventional pistol for which the major event is the National Matches at Camp Perry, is single handed. Two hands definitely improves stability, but it does nothing to improve grip, stance, and trigger control.

OP: Are you talking about slow-fire bullseye style shooting, or combat style point shooting?

Bullseye doesn't interest me, but one-hand draw and fire at close range is a valid and important technique. I practice this fairly often, although not every time I go to the range. It was also brought home to me today that I need to practice weak-hand shooting as well, and that is usually done one-handed.
 
I am talking about practical shooting for the most part, but I do a mix of fast draw point and shoot, and awkward positions (from the ground, around obsticals, on the move ect ect)

occasionally I try for longer/more accurate shots, but you never get that kind of time in competitions or real life.

my main thinking is that what If i need to carry something in my off hand and shoot, or if that hand is unavailable for some reason (driving, hurt, opening doors, ect)

and yes, weak one handed is something I try regularly as well, if only because I suck at it.
 
I tried it a few times when I first bought a handgun. I'll have to try it again next time at the range.
 
I did today, shooting hand to hand transitions (one shot right, back to ready, transition and repeat with the left) for a couple of hundred rounds . I throw it into the mix more now than I used to.
 
I definitely don't do it as much as I should. But just in case some people don't think of it, don't forget to practice mag changes as well using just the one hand. It's great if you can fire your 10 rounds one handed, but what if you need 11 or 12?
 
Every time I use handguns I switch between left and right hand, also one handing.

Even shotguns I do the same. :)

How often do you practice weak hand shooting? Adds another dimension to it.
You know, in case your good hand gets wounded in a streetbattle. ;)

Are you asking me?
Seems streetbattles are pretty hard to come by in the Great North. Heck I'm not one to chastise anyones chosen shooting sport friend. :)
Strictly an ISSF bullseye shooter here. (but I can easily see myself attending a metallic silhouette match with the 44 Dan Wesson)

good point on the one handed reloads, I do practice that, but only at home with unloaded dummy rounds, since people get nervous because my method involves tucking the pistol under my armpit, or betweenn my legs, pointing behind me so i can grab a mag from my belt w one hand.

maybe there is a better technique, would love to hear it.

you know its a good thread when dirt mc gurt makes an appearance
 
:)No Brutus, I wasn't asking you, just asking in general. It would be really hard shooting the freegun in your picture with the wrong hand I'm thinking. I enjoy many different forms and styles of shooting, so I would never diss anyones chosen discipline.
I was just kinda joking about the streetbattles. One day I would like to try "free pistol". I do enjoy the occasional bullseye match.
