I am interested in your opinion of the Beretta case hardening. Any comments?
The question wasn't directed to me but when does that stop anyone?:p

I looked very closely at a Beretta Silver Pigeon V a couple of weeks ago. Case hardened with gold inlays. While not a bone case hardening it looked decent enough and my first reaction was the SP V looked better in person than in pictures. The case hardening's durability isn't something I could tell but it did look nice.

The gun was a 28 gauge, scaled frame, chokes tubes and a nice piece of wood at a pretty attractive price. What I didn't like was a rib that wasn't that well machined and triggers with a noticeable amount of creep.

Claybuster, thanks. I haven't personally seen any recent Beretta CC finishes, but the photos make the colours seem very tasteful with muted browns and blues. Many chemical treatments leave garish colours.

Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Case hardening

Sharpie our favorite gun shop just got in a whole load of new product from Beretta, when I first saw the SP I thought it was a Guerini, then of course upon closer inspection a grade V SP, which I hadn't ever seen before yesterday. Also there is a DT10 in sporting another very fine gun, all the new pieces are 12 gauge, a couple of promo prices on the 2 Franchi's an Alcione and a Titanium.
I guess our shooting days are numbered at Stathcona, I still have a pile of shoot cards to use up between now and june. Hope you have a great Christmas, and I haven't forgotten that I owe you some Tungsten Matrix.FS

Web site why of course

Jacky the web site is www.P-D-ent.com but the new guns won't be there until later next week or perhaps longer due to Christmas as the web site up date is usually every tuesday. I am heading to mexico for a week on boxing day, but if you want some additional info I can try and help you out.FS

I've seen the Beretta case-colours on SP-V's, a 689 Gold Sable and
a 471EL. While not quite the traditional bone charcoal stuff, they do
never the less, look pretty good.

As to the SP-V's ... like the gun a lot, but can't stand the flakey
recoil pad they put on them ... let alone the crappy fibre-optic
fron sight ...UGHH !

Couple-a quick changes, and the Silver Pigeon 5's are a very
presentable O/U !

I agree. The glow worm front sight was the first thing I mentioned to the dealer. He said it comes off and there is a hole tapped in the rib for a traditional bead sight.

The DT10 is made in the same building as all the competion guns, the premium gunshop! The DT10L and EELL are made on the premium gun line, the same as the SO series. In Europe when you have an issue with a gun, it goes right back to the builder at the shop.
Here are a few pics from the premium gunshop:

They still sell the ASE90 in Italy. All competion and Premium guns are made to measure. This is something that is not available here.
The first DT10EELL was imported by Stoeger and sold to a Vietnamese fellow in Montreal. It was a 30 inch Sporter. I have the first DT 10L 32 inch Sporter. Rudy Vindatelli (Dante) has the first 32 inch DT 10EELL. It is gorgeous!!!!! The DT 10 with the Optima bore and chokes is a very dense patterning gun. I have to use WallyMart stuff to get any spread on close targets. Patterns tend to be at least one choke tighter when using regular ammo, more with stuff like Federal Gold Medal extra-lights.

Best regards,
Henry;)

There's the odd one that shows up every now and then in the $5000 to $6000
range. A good used ASE90 or ASE90Gold for the same money is also a viable prospect. The 90's I believe are/were better made, judging by the extra work on the trigger group mechanism, wood, fit & finish. They are also either fixed choke or "Mobil" choked ( some have fixed choke top bbls, mobil choked lower barrels, depending on model) and do not have the "Optima" bore bbls. Apparently they are still available in Europe, but are not marketed on this side of the pond by either Beretta USA or Stoeger Canada. The one Beretta supplied George Leary with (pre-Atlanta) was a "beaut" !

The ASE 90 is made in th same area, by the same people that make the DT 10L and EELL, as well as the SO guns. It is called now the ASE. It is a limited production with limited edition with a very limited run. They DO make it with Optima bore and chokes in two versions: ASE L Sporting Optima-Bore (12,499E) and ASE LX Sporting Optima-Bore (18,127E). They also make two trap versions that are 200E cheaper in similar grades. It must have to do with the Optima-Bore system. The DT10, SO5 and ASE are all made to measure in Europe at dealers that are: "Gun Service Beretta". This is a no charge service. The ASE is only in the Italian Beretta price list. It is not in the Worldwide catalogue.

While at the plant, I did not see ANY ASE being built. They must do a single run. They are much more expensive to build than a DT 10. Among the more expensiv items is the trigger group of a different design. They also use cold forged Boehler Antinit steel barrels as in the SO series.

Next week when I cash my 6-49 check, I will fly to Italy to get measured for an ASE LX 32inch Sporting .:dancingbanana: Now where is that winning ticket?

Best regards,
Henry;)

Already know my measurements ... but it would be for an SO5 32" Sporter,
with an extra set of 28" Barrels ( but then again, if the 649 cheque was THAT big, probably just a second SO5, maybe Imperiale Montecarlos in both 12 and 28 and a 455 Express... enough for a good start - just as easy to ship 5 back home as it is 1 ! )

Eell

Here are some shots of my DT10eell. I believe i bought it last july. It came from Stoeger through a Vancouver Shop. I love it, it was expensive.
