Guy I know is selling an original ww2 m1 (not sure of maker I think springfield)
it's in pretty good shape and he wants $1200 for it. just wondering if thats a good/bad price? whats average?

If it is indeed original and in rather good shape then it would seem to be a good deal. however, I remember reading something about how 90% of M1's a a couple of parts swapped out at one time or another by whatever army the belonged to at the time.

You should be able to get one for $600, $1200 seems steep unless it has something special about it.

Some of the low serial number Winchesters and Springfield demand higher $ in the US.

I agree, $600 or so is the ballpark for most Garands unless there is something 'special' about the one you speak of.

If it's truely unissued with every single part being maker and period correct, with correct stock and cartouches, then that is a good price. If not, it's highway robery.

If it's and M1C or and M1D it's a steal at that price.
Kind of like asking what's a Chevy worth?
Post some pics. Otherwise, $50 to $3000.

I have no idea if if it's ALL correct. I havent even seen it myself but I was talking to him yesterday and he told me he was selling it and I thought $1200 seemed alittle bit much. sposed to be in really nice shape though. I'll try and find out more about it and maybe get some pics.

I concur, $1200 is a ridiculous price. He must have been reading some US retail prices on the net. There are lots of Garands in Canada, although they don't trade as often as in the US, and they are not THAT hard to find.

Although it is the most uncomfortable rifle I've fired in a long time, I would pay $1200 for an M1D (or M1C) sniper rifle with scope. Anything else is $600 tops.
