How much for an Armalite M4?

What would be a good price to pay for a used but in very good condition Armalite M15 carbine, one of those sold by Wolverine Supplies for around $1,000.00 not a long time ago? It is just as it came from the factory, no accessories added, not even rear sights. Thanks.

With the prices having gone up on everything 'AR'.....If this Armalite has a low round count and is in excellent condition...There is no reason this person could not ask for MORE than he originally paid. I say $1200

Just like the Swiss Arms, the guys that paid $2800 can now sell them for over $3000 even after they have had them for a year.

2 cents :)

WOW, I thought more people would be able to answer this one!

Thanks a lot for your contribution rivetc78, and I completely agree with you. In fact, we just checked one out and if they had asked $1,200 for it, we'd have sealed the deal right then and there. However, as it was, we could get a brand new CMMG from Questar delivered to our door for the same amount they were asking for that used Armalite.

I want an AR, but only to contribute pi$$ing off the libs, not because I need one, and not because I like it very much (although this may change, once I've fired a couple of 1000 rounds through one ). It is my opinion that, other than scope mounting ability and a little easier mag release, the AR has nothing on my CZ858. I prefer the latter's balance, ergonomics and caliber over those of the AR and I really, I mean "really", don't like the AR's charging handle. Anyways, I'll keep looking but, worst comes to worst, I'll buy a stripped lower, just to have it registered. Libs won't know it's just a receiver, and the statistics will still pi$$ 'em off just the same. ;)

Like a CZ858 better than an AR? Umm... O.K.. Guess you haven't found the right AR yet or have only been handling garbage. I would love to get a real armalite AR-10. And I don't like this price gouging thing. If someone paid $1000.00 for a rifle and wants to sell it, they automatically should be selling for less than or equal to that. If a particular armalite (the actual one I would be looking at) sold new for say $1200.00, I would never pay more than that EVER, even if the zombies were at my door.

GunLover: Can you provide linky to the $1200 CMMG from Questar? I can't find it.. Cheapest one they have is $1500.

Thx

Eeeeh... Either I badly expressed myself or you just misread my post. I said: "...if they had asked $1,200 for it, we'd have sealed the deal right then and there. I did the math and a brand new CMMG from Questar, delivered to my door, would be something like $1,600.00. I never said Questar had AR's for $1,200. I wish they did, 'cause if they did, I'd have one already ;) Unfortunately, $1,600 for an AR is a little too rich for my blood. My opinion only, you don't need to agree with it. :)

But of course I haven't found the right AR to compare it to the CZ858, but maybe that's only because I'm comparing apples to apples, unlike people who compare $3,000 AR's against $650 CZ858's. I'm looking for a standard M4 style AR, no crap added to it, and no special barrel, trigger, or sights, either. In that configuration, it is still at least twice the price I paid for my CZ858, and for me nowhere near as nice and ergonomic. I don't think it'll be more accurate (I'm getting close to 2" groups at 100 mts with my CZ, open sights and all), neither will it be more reliable or more powerful. And when I say I prefer the CZ over the AR, I don't mean because of its looks, the main reason why most guys would choose the AR over the CZ, just to add a whole bunch of crap to it. I mean, for me, the CZ is a much better balanced rifle, whereas AR's tend to be muzzle heavy. I also prefer the grip, and grip placement of the CZ, I prefer the feel of the ugly wood chip buttstock on the CZ over anything they put on the AR because it is more comfortable for me, not to mention more solid.

Now, if I had $2,000+ to spend on a nicer AR, I could think of at least 10 different rifles I'd rather spend that amount on.

I, for sure, don't like the prices being asked for AR's, however I do understand that it's their rifles and they have the right to ask whatever amount of money they want to ask for it. My choice is exactly what I chose, I just walked away and let them keep their rifle. It does annoy me a little that the stores are asking so much, though. I'm sure they could be sold at a considerably more sensible price. But again, it's their choice, I just don't buy.

OOps.. you said 'USED Armalite'. Oh well... I had to ask. thx

It is my opinion that, other than scope mounting ability and a little easier mag release, the AR has nothing on my CZ858.

Well a good AR will be about twice as accurate as your 858. It will be shorter and lighter and much easier to shoot at distance. We shoot short barreled AR's to 500m in competition. Just try that with your 858.

You seem to be basing all your AR bias on supposition, clearly never having actually fired an AR. Why not try one a few times before putting it down.

And not to mention at least twice as expensive.

Not enough for me to justify paying two and a half times the price.

Well, I'm very happy for you, I just don't see how that changes my situation. I don't even have a 200 mt range around here, much less 500 mt. And by the way, others used to shoot SMLE's at 1,000 mts in competition. Does that make my as issued Enfields accurate at that distance? I think not!

You seem to be basing all your AR bias on supposition, clearly never having actually fired an AR.

I'll have to give you that one. I'm basing my thinking on what accuracy I've read most mortals are getting with a basic, nothing added, standard M4, and on my impressions while actually handling them. And by the way, we are all biased here, just like you are in favor of AR's, in case you didn't notice.

Why not try one a few times before putting it down.

Again, in case you didn't notice, that is exactly what I'm trying to do, otherwise I would have never asked my original question. But thanks anyways for your help.

You really don't sound like you want an AR, in which case why are you even bothering to consider buying one?

Very good question, and there is only one good reason for me. I still remember it as if it was yesterday! I was holding a HK93 at a local store and wondering if I should buy it or not. It was a lot of money for me at the time, way too much, so I decided I would wait a bit longer before going for it. Next thing I knew, bill 68 had passed and I was screwed big time, forever keeping me from buying a ton of guns I had wanted ever since I was a kid. This time around, with the biggest A-hole ever to hold power south of the border, and with separatists and thieves threatening to bring down the government here, I am determined not to let the same thing happen to me again. This time I'll have a registered evil rifle, before they put it on the black list.

And by the way, it's not that I don't like it, it's just that unlike some others, I just don't think it is the best rifle ever. I like guns in general, and like shooting as many different ones as I can lay my hands on, hardly ever getting too close to only one type. I usually jump from one type to the next, just for a change (except for my 1911  ) I don't compete, so it doesn't bother me as long as I can hit paper and game.

Probably around 1500-2000 used. They haven't been available for a long time. The 14.5 probably never again new. The 16 in. who knows when Wolverine will get them. I'm guessing if they did they would be 1800-2200 new. But who knows.

He he, I can only imagine that for $2,000 for a used AR, it probably comes with a naked nice looking girl, already on all fours just for my personal use. ;)

No, it doesn't unfortunatley. A new stag with quad rail is 1700 plus tax/shipping. A used Armalite 14.5 or even 16 in. would be at least 1500. But try to get a new American made 14.5 and let me know how that goes.

Lucky for me, I'm only looking for a standard 16" M4, with standard handguard and A2 buttstock.
