How much interest in a Canadian limited edition Ruger No.1?

There are only 150 commiteed buyers at this point and by the sounds of it only 200 rifles coming to Canada with 50 staying stateside, yet app 250 in the poll, so I would hope the poll has nothing to do with the actual order, for those on the fence I would say time is running out.

This is why I was reluctant to have a poll & opted out of setting one up myself. The only one who really knows what the preference is of the majority of committed buyers is Clay. And he hasn't even had a reply back from Ruger yet...
I know the intention was good from the member who set it up, but I think there had to be a recorded number of confirmed buyers regardless, in order to even make this possible. Maybe not the best way to go about this process, but I don't think this sales pitch would have even got off the ground without people saying they'd take one even if it wasn't their 1st choice in model.
From what I know, the majority of 'buyers' will dictate the model.

Interesting - they might want more than one vote ;)

LOL, and they got it when they contacted me.
Seriously, people have been great and its an exciting process. I really want one for myself too! :)

There have certainly been people that said' I want 'insert configuration here' or I won't be interested and that's certainly fair enough As long as I know and can keep it in mind and alter the 'order book' for it.

Now, for a quick update:
It looks like we have about one month to wait. Lipseys normally places their orders for special runs at SHOT. So, I think we can, assumming Ruger says 'yes', get the final configuration and start taking in deposits about Jan 25.

Yes, and as Clay says, ultimately they'll get it. Two or four or x deposits for a 1-A or 1-S will trump my deposit for one RSI. The poll is useful for showing which the way we'd like to go, but only a deposit is a real vote.

I have no problem with that - but we need to somehow make sure that only buyers are voters in the final poll. Maybe send our vote for final configuration to Clay, or other neutral party who can talley them up? Then with the final result posted, some may drop out.

That's like saying we are to put down a deposit before the final configuration is determined. I can't see many signing up to that. Most (myself incl.) want to know the deal before the money goes down.

.

Its a bit of a tough call as people will want the configuration before $$$ go down. However, I've got a detailed list of 'comitted' buyers and , so far, the 1-S with just a special serial is looking like the one. Many are saying 'A' or 'S' is fine. We have a few that want an RSI and a very few with RSI or nothing.
Now, having said this, Ruger may agree to a certain configuration for a variety of technical reasons?
As I said before, the main deal breaker will be if they won't make a .311 bore. Also, we may have trouble making enough orders if it has to be a RSI(maybe not, as many have said they will take one as long as its 303)

Thanks Clay-we appreciate the effort.

I think you will know the deal before the money goes down. I think Clay will be able to get a few quotes from Ruger based on a minimum order of 250 in a standard configuration model with the only special features being the calibre and a serial number. No "1-A, but with a longer barrel" or "1-S, but with a cup holder and a maple leaf badge." Anything else is almost certainly going to introduce too much extra cost and buyers will start falling away.

I expect we'll be able to tell Clay, "For this configuration at a price up to (e.g.) $1300 I will make a deposit, for that one I won't." Clay will probably then get to a point where he will be able to say "I'm going ahead with an order for x because it's the only one that looks viable with the firm commitments I have, how many others want to put a deposit on now?" Or he'll be able to poll between two options.

Deadman's poll is just what we wish will be offered, so Clay can ask Ruger for prices on two or three options that wemay be offered.

The No.1 Standard comes with a 26" barrel. No sights, so you can easily have the barrel cut back and crowned as you may like, and have sights added, if you wish. No fugly affectation of a barrel band swing swivel, no funny grooved forend. I could get almost as interested in that as an RSI.

Barrel band and grooved forend are ###y.

and if you just want a strait pipe 303 Ruger #1, go talk to your smith.

Or you could talk to your smith about kinks like putting a band around the band and carving a chunk out of the forestock. I couldn't justify replacing the barrel on a good serviceable No.1. Do you know of any available with a worn out or otherwise trashed barrel?
