With spring bear season here, sorry Ontario not rubbin your noses in it, I thought I'd pose this question to you:
When you go out hunting, be it a day, a week, 2weeks. how much ammo do you bring with you? I am one of those, "never too much types".
I have, when hunting:
- my two mags full (10 rounds)
- 20 rounds in my hunting belt
- 60 rounds in my quad
- at least 20 rounds in my truck
- and don't forget the .22... not sure but at least 1000 rounds
How about you... what is your magic number?

Getting ready to start and finish WW3?:p

I use factory ammo so I just take the box of 20 with me, loaded in the rifle and the rest on my person.

For shotgun, I usually load the gun then take 5 or 10 extra shells just in case.

Rimfire, is it 50 in those little boxes? That gets stuck in my pocket plus a loaded mag in the rifle.

Most of the extra ammo I bring is a just in case sorta deal and because its convienient to take the whole pack instead of splitting it up, also some extra shots may come in handy if I ever get lost.

20 rounds is lots for a rifle... however if I want to do some bush plinking with the rifle after I am done my hunting, I will bring more.

I "camp hunt" for big game, meaning im in for lunch and can restock if need be, so I dont carry alot. Usually 7 or 8 rifle shells. When im carrying my shotgun during deer, usually 5 slugs, 2 00B and a couple bird shot if a chicken is stupid enough to stand in front of me while I unload the slug.

Waterfowl, my wife and I usually bring 2 boxes.

Walking for grouse, I load the belt with shells.

Usually I'll carry the rifle full, plus enough to reload twice. On most of my rifles that's 4 in the gun and 8 in two different pants pockets. I've done it long enough that it feels like a good luck ritual already. Back at the truck there will be whatever is left from from a 50 box of handloads, but never less than about 25 total.

Usually 3 in the gun, 8 7mm and 4 45/70 in a belt pouch and a box of each in the back pack. For 22lr I just through a box and a clip full in my pocket and a couple boxes in my back pack for shooting grouse.

I usually carry 10 on me - whatever fits in the rifle and the rest in my pocket. I keep a full box of each in the truck on top of that. Most of my hunting I'm never more than 3-5KM from the truck.

If I was humping the backwoods I would probably carry more.

For a day hunt I take seven rounds. I noticed a long time ago, that on a day hunt when I shot a moose, I had seven shells with me. Must be a lucky number, I thought, so I made it a practice to take the seven shells on a hunt.
On a muntain hunt of several days duration, I would take two more, being nine rounds.
I have never ran out of ammunition. The most shots I have ever taken to kill a moose or elk is two. Of the various species of big game I have shot, the average would be about 1.5 shots per animal. (30-06)
Rifle ammunition is heavy and I can see no reason for weighting myself down with far more than I would ever use.
I know, someone will say, "What if a grizzly attacks you?" My answer is that the shells in the magazine at the time will sufficient. Likely only one or two shells would be shot, before the scene ended, good or bad!

I usually carry a spare magazine, so total of 2 four shot mags. Never needed the spare, and I have the rest of the (20 rnd.) box back in the truck.
That's for daytrip hunting. If I was going for longer I'd bring more.

Crow hunting, I take a full box of shells and usually a belt full of ammo.

Rabbit or partridge, I'll take along a dozen shells or so. I'll never need more than that.

Ducks, I'll take at least one box and one belt of ammo.

Deer, I'll take along about ten cartridges or so.

Bear, I'll take about ten cartridges too.

If I have the .22, I always bring at least one box of 50 shells.

a mag full and nine in a cartridge holder in my pack it holds ten but then that would make my total 13 and thats bad luck. on my 257ai with the but holder i pack only 7 for good luck.

Depends what I'm hunting. Big game such as moose elk or whitetails I carry 10 rounds on me. Never had to use them all...hope I never have to on a big game hunt.

Ducks I usually carry 20 in my coat and a spare box in my rucksack. Ruffed grouse hunts can be had with 6 or 8 shells. Crows, minnimum 4 boxes...sometimes a flat of shotshells if a fall migration congregation point has been located.

Prairie dogs or gophers, 400 rounds of centrefire 22 stuff.

When I'm hunting, I don't use much ammo. That said, everything is by the box. I either have a full box( or several) or I don't have it at all. Exceptions of course, I often hunt at a buddie's cabin, we bring lots of ammo for farting around in his gravel pit.

Moose is always two full clips and a box in the truck. Never ran out yet.Generally keep 2 boxes of 20 gauge in the truck for two of us.
