How much is it costing you to load .223?

4 pennies of powder, 3 pennies for primer, plus price of bullet pending on type and quality mostly (you can look that up). If im not mistaken, not necesarely worth it if its just for plinking fmjs but definately makes high quality rounds cheaper.
 
Yeah 55gr VMAX I'm doing (if I recall) for around $0.30-$0.32 per round. But I sourced my bullets about 5 years ago so I'm sure it will cost more when I run out.
 
chinese crates are going for 320+ tax at can am, work out to .30 a round
last I checked 20 packs of american ammo were ~$9-10 after tax, so .45-.50 a round

if you are reloading quality ammo at about .30 a round, then you are doing well. if you are reloading plinking ammo, then how much is your time worth?
 
my time is worth FA. I work 37.5 hours per week on hourly salary. the only way it would cost me would be to turn down O/T to sit and reload and that isn't happening.

I'd love to see what powder you're using that costs 4 cents a round for .223?
I use approximately 25grains of IMR XBR (8208) or Varget which costs around $0.10 a round for powder.
It costs me another $0.10 per bullet, Hornady 55gr FMJ with cannelure.
$0.035 per primer so my total cost is $0.235 per round.
 
I have looked into that and decided it wasnt worth my time to reload .223 with some of the deals. Right now CanAm has the Norc stuff for $319 for 1120 rounds. plus tax, free ship - thats $0.28 per round. I prefer to shoot cleaner and better ammo and I have bought S&B 5.56 for $419 plus tax / 1000 at Reliable. Of course I save all my brass in case prices make it worth the time.
 
Costs me 24.4 cents per round... That is 55 VM's over Varget with CCI primers and does not include brass... I have never paid for .223 brass.
 
I am not rich, but I reload because I like trying to get the best accuracy and also the fun of it.As for the cost of my loading a .223 round for my Tikka Varmint I would not have a clue.But I will watch and see how you Lads make out on the Price of loading a .223.Good Luck.
 
Just bought some Privi 55gr at $140 for 1,000, primers for $29, tax for those 2 is $20. 1,000 bullets uses between a 1/3 to a 1/2 a can of powder so lets say $20 worth.

Approx $210 to reload 1,000 rds

Canaams deal is $357.28 with tax and he does free shipping. So it boils down to time you have and whether you have a free brass supply, which I do. I am happy to promote his deals and might pick up a crate for the hell of it for when I don't have time.

When you say can of powder, what is the volume and powder? 7000 grains per pound of powder will net 280 - 350 rounds per pound depending on charge. I never buy brass but those military primer pockets are an extra 1000 steps if thats what is picked up - which means another tool. I admit, I don't shoot enuff AR right now to justify reloading it. If I had a bolt gun in .223.... I would reload for accuracy.
 
3500 rounds for 1000.00 even take all the advantage of reloading out, except for extra accurate rounds.... In my books that is... JP.
 
1000 rounds is about 3 lbs of powder, more like 90 bucks unless you get big deals on big volumes.
