How much is this Garand worth?

Deciding on whether I should put this up in the EE. I don't think this rifle would have too much collector value, but it is a nice shooter. I have an idea of its value, but what do you think would be a reasonable asking price for this rifle with sling, bayonet/sheath, and 10 "pingeys"? It is potentially reparkerized; in high wear areas (corners, edges, etc.) the finish is slightly worn and is therefore slightly shiny, but is otherwise in perfect condition. I have put about 150 rounds through it, and the Danish VAR barrel looks to be in good condition. The Receiver is Springfield, the Stock is Ramline.

No.'s from the parts:
On Receiver behind rear sight 3213724
On Receiver below where operationg handle sits in bolt closed position B29C D 28291 35
Bolt D28287-19SA B-18
Trigger Group D28290-W.R.A.
Hammer C46008-7 SA
Operating Rod D35382 SA
Barrel VAR D 653544B 3-66 314 CK

It looks like an after market stock and thus likely re-parked.
I am guessing that the 150 round count is the current owners round count , not the rifles. That I guess is unknown.

I am thinking $950-$1150.
Good condition but non-original.

Thanks for the imput so far. dinsdale looks to be the closest so far...

I'm no collector, and I don't think this rifle would have too much collector value. Truthfully I don't know a lot about this rifle - I bought it from a gun store who had a booth at a show. It was a long time ago, but I think it was described as "new". The finish looked perfect when I first bought it, so I assume the parkerizing is new, but could it possibly have been refinished before I picked it up? From just peering down the barrel it looked perfect when I bought it, and still looks pretty much the same. I have never had a scope down it. The 150 round count is what I have put through it. That being said the parts don't seem to match: some no.'s:

It's a Danish rebuild - the VAR barrel proves that, plus the typical mix of M1 parts. Jean at P&S sells similar Garands for $650ish....

I've got a contact in the U.S. that refinishes Garand stocks and the guy does a great job. I have an IH 1954 that I got on a trade with a synthetic stockand I wanted the original stock. He had one which were hard to find. It is beautful. I sold the synthetic and put the money towards the original stock.

Springfield receiver (made 1944, October), Danish rebuild, mixed parts, VAR barrels are match quality. New stock. = $1100
Sling = $15
enbloc clips = $2 -$3 ea
bayonet = $100 - $150

You might have shot it 150 times, but it's a surplus rifle. When these came in, the stocks were beaten up really badly, the metal was all reparkerized. I would just say you fired 150rds. Hard to gauge how many rounds a surplus rifle fired

Overall in the neighborhood of $1200 would be a good price. I would start at $1300 and see where it goes. Any more that that, you’re going to wait a while to sell it.

Why not just keep it? Looks nice

DaveGP - is that P&D in Edmonton you are talking about? $650 with an original or synthetic stock?

Pblatzz - You figure $1100 for one with a new wood stock, or a new synthetic?

P&S - in Quebec - he's (Jean) a great guy, fair with his pricing and descriptions.
Do a search (P&S Guns and Militaria)

Part of me wants to keep it - it was the second rifle I ever bought, and it is a nice shooting rifle - but I don't shoot it anymore, and I have spent a lot of money on other guns lately (who needs a mortgage downpayment anyway). The idea with my last purchase was that I would move the lesser used ones out of my collection to recap some of the cost - that has not happened yet... It is a Ramline stock by the way.

Like everything, it's the buyer who is going to like it. I personnally like walnut. You can list it, and if it doen't sell them reduce the price until it does.

I agree with Hitzy

If you are anything like me, you will regret selling it - I regret every gun I have sold (and some I have bought :redface: :p)
