How much media do you put in your tumbler?

I just used my Turbo 1200 for the first time and it came with 3 bags of media, but I only used 2 of them. I didn't want to over fill the thing, but in retrospect I assume they sent 3 bags because that is what the capacity should be. I tumbled 60 .223 brass for about and hour and fifteen minutes and they look pretty clean. The media is some greenish stuff so I'm guessing it's corn cob. I picked up an indoor timer thing to plug it into so I don't end up leaving it running all night if I happen to have a bout of old timers or too many rums.:D
 
I fill 'er to the max. Put the brass in while it's running a handful at a time. The brass hardly takes any volume once it gets filled with the media.

I use the Lyman walnut with rouge added in. Brass looks like jewelery when it's done.
 
The rouge is already in the walnut media. I used it to clean some very tarnished pick-ups and only ended up tossing about 25 cases out of 1000. It is slightly easier to dump out of smaller cases than corncob I find.
 
I fill my Lyman 1200 to the point that when it is running its not spilling media out of the bowl....... Not very accurate, but it does do the trick.

Flitz makes a tumbler media additive, I buy it at the Gun store here in town. I am sure that WSS, Cabelas, P&D or a host of other online shops carry media additive.

I put about 500 9mm, 200 30-06 or 300 .243 brass in there at a time, in about an hour to an hour and a half it comes out shinier than new brass. I find anything over 2hrs doesn't do anything it hasn't already done.

I have heard that you can use Brasso (brass polish)..... I have also heard not to use Brasso as it has chemicals in it that if you don't clean the casings after tumbleing will bugger up your loads....... I don't reccomend you use brasso as cleaning after tumbling just don't make sense......

The Lyman polish works well as an additive as well as Aluminum Mag Polish or Brasso rather than paying for the pre treated stuff.
 
When I'm using corn cob, and the media gets tired, I add a squirt of liquid car polish. You can really stretch out the media's life with the stuff.
Walnut IMO is faster than cob, but the polish is different, I think cob may be closer to factory in it's shine. The rouge has to be wiped off and you'll end up with red fingers until the media gets a bit older, and the excess rouge is gone. walnut seems to last a lot longer than cob.

The rouge in the Lyman stuff is powdered, and doesn't need wiping after. Just shake the brass to get the media out of the case, or what I do is use an air compressor through the flash hole to blast the little piece that's inevitably stuck in there.
