I have been having a blast (pardon the pun) reloading .45 ACP. Big hands have an easier time with a big cartridge.

Anyhow, I have been seeing a variance in overall length of ±.0045". Using Dillon .45 ACP 3-die set.

Does this improve with a match die set? Does it matter significantly? (loading FMJs at 1.230 to mimic OAL of some factory rounds I have here. (Both reloading manuals I own also quote 1.230 OAL with 230 gr)

Thanks for your input.

that seems like a lot of variation (nearly .010 thou) but unless your at a firewall load, its not going to make much difference, and unless your a bullseye champion, you probably won't see any accuracy difference either. Make sure your bottoming your press out the same way each time, and that your die is clean.

±0,0045 is fine

and regarding what cocked and locked said, I'd like to add : if you're using mixed brass, which have different base thickness, not only will you have variance in oal but the bullets will also be seated at a different depth.

Don't know what brand of factory you previously shot but all the Winchester factory I shot had a variance of at least ±0.003 from 1.230

at first I read you had ±0.045'' of variance
