How much $$$ per month in production.

When I first started IPSC, I would shoot probably 50-100 rounds a week for accuracy and would compete in a level one every week.
I spent a lot of time being too fast for myself, but when I settled down I saw real progress, but nothing on the level of top shooters (A shooters and better).

Although you were asking about the cost of shooting, as others have mentioned, there is a lot to practice. Gun handling in general can be broken down into a number of microskills as can basic movement in general. You can improve your score without improving your shooting at zero cost. I think every action shooter will agree with this notion.

Yup, there's tons of mileage in doing dry fire. If you are on a budget you can ramp up the dry fire and work on perfecting movement skills, and work on accuracy at the range. The really nice things about dry practice: low cost, eliminates the distraction of recoil and noise, no time to set up, no travel time, and you don't have to dress up.

Nice to hear from you Iain. I hope you are doing well.

Not like I can offer any better advice than the esteemed crowd gathered here, but If I can expand...

Try to make a point to practice just one or two skills when you do cheat, I mean practice. Don't just hang a target and turn ammunition into noise. Pick one or two specific skills that you need to improve, and work on them exclusively for 20 minutes.

We all know how the course designers like to throw mirror stages at you. Practice shooting the hard targets around the barricade. How's your weak hand only, etc.

As you drive home from each match, ask yourself what element of that match did you phuck up, and plan your practice session to address that weakness.
