Just came across this on you tube though it was kind of neat. Kind of dated, but what got me was that to get 100lb of lead you need 3300lb of ore. So do the math any weight by 33. So 125gr 9mm is 4125gr or .6 lb. 405gr 45 is 13325gr or 1.91lb.

Average lead grades mined are around 5% lead.

So for every tonne of ore mined it will contain 50 kg of lead (mostly as the lead sulphide galena).

If you recover 90% of the lead from the ore you're looking at 45 kg of lead from a tonne of ore.

At $0.81/lb for lead a tonne of ore is worth approximately $80US/tonne minus mining, milling, transport, smelting, exploration, taxes, royalties, capital/amortization costs and G&A.

Mining is a tough business.

You think lead is a low percentage try gold. That's why many gold mines closed as it cost to much to recover the gold from the ore. I have watched those guys look for gold up north there along the rivers where with the price of gold now it's worth while re sifting thru where the old guys had already been with old machinery looking for gold.
When they first opened up Fort Mac you couldn't have a thermometer or any gauge left lying around as they stole the mercury out of it to recover low grade gold .

We have a small open pit mine in operation (about 800 tons/day) that is running about 1% copper and 6 grams/ton of combined platinum, palladium and gold. That works out to about 5 tons mined for every ounce of precious metal.
