Our gov't here in Bluenose terrotory loves to licence you and fee you to death. Here's a couple of examples:

So you wanna hunt in NS....
http://www.gov.ns.ca/snsmr/paal/ndxdnr.asp#hunting

New just in...we now have to do a course on ATV safety and get a special licence along with collision insurance, licence plates and registration for your ATV.

We all know the drill for rifles right? PAL + Hunting safety course right. But here in NS you pay a general 3$ fee for a wild life habitat stamp which then allows you to buy other licences

Wildlife habitat stamp: Resident $3.00
Small game licence: Resident: $15.93
Deer antlered: Resident: $25.73
Deer non antlered: draw/lottery @$6
Bear: Resident: $24.50
Bear snaring: Resident Only : $24.50
Bear bait site registration: FREEEEEE (yeah)
Muzzle loader permit: Resident: $5.75
Pheasant game reserve licence: Initial Application and Annual Renewal: $50
Permit to keep wild game meat: Free
Moose lottery: Application for the draw: $6.90
Moose Hunting Stamp: $61.24
Companion Moose Hunting Stamp: $23.00

Bows
Bow Hunting Certificate Course: $28 (No tax is charged)
Bow hunting stamp for deer: Resident: $ 5.75

Fur Harvester Certificate: $30.00
Fur Harvester Licence: $18.37
Round (Unskinned) Furbearer Carcass: Permit-To-Sell: Free
Fur Retention Permit: Free
Fur Buyer Licence: Initial Application or Annual Renewal: $ 25

Dog Field Trial In Wildlife Habitat Permit: Free
Dog Training In Wildlife Habitat Permit: Free
Raccoon Dog Night Hunting Permit: Free

Guide Licence: Initial Application and Annual Renewal: $30 for 3 years

And this is only the hunting/trapping stuff excluding migratory birds!

Grand total: 20 licences and fees totalling $383.

That's only if you want to do everything except ducks and no ATV.

If you want to hunt birds, rabbit, bear and deer with a rifle then you're only looking at about 70 bucks.

Get in line.... Ontario deer tag is $34.00...
We don't have to buy an archery tag like you do :? but most of the licenses and fees here in Ontario are similar or even more expensive than yours. :(
I think they should be paying us... we are providing a service... they are providing nothing but harrassment

Here's the British Columbia fee's (add GST)

Hunting Licence issued to:

a resident to hunt wildlife and to carry firearms
$32
a resident, who is a Canadian citizen, 65 years of age or older, to hunt wildlife and to carry firearms
$7
a person to hunt in the Gulf Islands special hunting area
$2
an applicant for a junior licence
$7
a person to hunt in the Fraser Valley special area
$10

Species Licence to hunt:

Black Bear
$20
Caribou
$20
Cougar
$30
Mule Deer, including Black-tailed Deer and Fallow Deer
$15
Elk
$25
Grizzly Bear
$80
Moose
$25
Mountain Goat
$40
Mountain Sheep
$60
White-tailed Deer
$15
Queen Charlotte Islands Deer
$10
Bobcat
$8
Bison
$70
Lynx
$8
Wolverine
$8
So to hunt moose out here for example, it's $32 for a hunting lisence and $25 for a moose tag...$57 + GST...KF

"...Ontario deer tag is $34.00..." Plus the $50 Outdoors Card tax. There's a licence for every beast starting with the Small Game licence. Everybody in Canada needs a Migratory Bird permit to hunt geese and ducks.

for me this year:
hunting booklet (licence):$34.24
bear tag:$21.40 (cut) :D
moose tag:$26.75 (un-cut)
caribou tag:$21.40 (cut) :D
deer tag:$16.05(cut) :D
deer tag:$16.05(un-cut) got till the 10th of december :D
total:$135.89
meat: a hell of a lot more $ then that :D
talk to ya all later
Riley

What I get a kick outta...it seems everyone needs to get a licence (POL/PAL) in order to get a gun which then has to be registered in order to get a licence (hunting course) in order to get a permit (wild life stamp of some sort) in order to get a licence (hunting stamp) in order to get a tag...which finally allows you to shoot an animal....which in NS you then have to register and get a permit to keep the meat.

Glad I straightened that out! :?

No... Nobody wants to make hunting so complicated that eventually we all just say friggit and not bother.

Soon we'll need a mouse tag! (And a lawyer to read and explain the regs to us.)
I do now, I really cant understand how it got to be so complicated, If you wanted to come to stay with meI could take you hunting for just about anything for just about free, for just about the whole year and that is on the most crowded island on earth! Guess what we are overrun and the Govt wants to stop species based closed seasons!
Dont want to apply for a visitors firearms permit? fine borrow one of mine and it is all legal!

Hey to top all that:

Down in Southern Ontario you need a Municipal licence to hunt on top of all other licences. So if I hunt rabbits on a piece of land abutting 2 jurisdictions... I need both... They cost $5-$10 each but thats not the point! The stupid govt lackie offices are only open like 9-4... And are closed for lunch. This involves taking a day off work, driving around hell's five acres... You know.... Pain in the Ass.

Now forget about the licences... now comes the insurance on everything.... boat, car, atv, etc.

How about Gas this year!? Last hunting season, I was shelling out ) $0.77-$0.85 per litre... Now we have at least 20% more costs... On top of this we have our own oil and gas refined here.....! (Don't get me started)

Money grabbing @$#!!!&^*%$#@!!@#@!! government #@!!!$##@!@#@!!!

2 year wait to become a resident. I don't wanna talk about it. And no, I don't get a break because I'm a Gravel Road Cop.

Then it's pretty good, other than needing permission to hunt in the Inuvialuit Settlement Region for certain species (Grizzly, Polar Bear, Muskox). $10 for your license, $10 per tag, 5 caribou, unlimited wolf tags, 1 moose, 1 Dall Sheep, 1 Goat, 1 Grizz, 1 Blackie.

I just might have to take the offer :D

And all the latte drinking bird watchers and tree huggers put not one red cent into the system. If hunting were banned who would pay?

Come over by all means just give me enough notice, with the doe season starting Nov 1st here that means roe and fallow so most paying stalkers dont bother but the deer still need controlling so even the estate carcase fee gets dropped and that can be a real boon if you are after filling the freezer for crimbo!
What with rabbit, fox, pigeon shooting for free, plenty of duck and goose no limit no fee and then actually getting paid to beat and back gun on a pheasant shoot, damn I wish I had no mortgage!
