how much to AI a 700 .223 Rem

What do you guys think of AI'ing a .223 that shoots great with the stock barrel (3/8 groups)? Would you be happy as is and not mess with it, or....? What generally happens with the accuracy when AI'ing these? I really don't want to have the added expense of buying a barrel.

Is it worth it? Mine has a 22" barrel, approaches 4000 fps with 40 gr Ballistic Tips, and runs over 3000 with 75 gr A-Maxes,............ and both shoot sub MOA.

Not a tough decision for me. :)

Prefit (not to be confused with short chambered barrels) barrels are complete of all major machining (threading, crown, contour, chamber) and are purposely chambered slightly deep, you cut the shoulder back to establish the correct head space.

perhaps a gunsmith on here could explain fully the difference in "short chambered" and "long chambered" (Prefit???) barrels and how we need to look at them regarding the work involved in installing.

I think I have a pretty good idea after reading on some Barrel Mfgr's sites, but it always helps to hear it from another source.

Would like someone to speak to the apparent feeding issues that guys seem to be having when AI'ing their Remington. Anything behind it, what fixes, etc ?

I have had two of them. The first was a rechambered 1500 Howa, now owned by another member here, who cranks it up regularly. The one I have now is a bone stock Stevens 200, rechamberd by Bill Leeper.

Both rifles feed, fire, extract and eject just fine.
