Sorry if this topic has already been posted.

I've recently become a Safety instructor with the CFC and I was wondering what people are charging for PAL and RPAL courses and challenges.

I've heard of group classes from $40 to individual person class of $150.

What's reasonable?

Thanks,

The guy I took it with charged $65 for non and $130 for the two combined. Class size was about 20 people with 4 or 5 instructors. This was in Calgary. TSE charges $200 IIRC. Look at how much it costs you to run a course and give yourself some money for your time and that will give you a pretty good figure.

You sure they gave you the CFSC instructor's ticket? They seem to have a policy of keeping instructor numbers down. Where you are has a lot to do with it. Mind you, there's more to it than just having the ticket. You'll need training aids(firearms of all types, but prohibited), etc.
Both courses and the exams run $185 - $220, locally(London). The PAL or RPAL course and exam, taken individually, runs $120 - $130. No group rates. Plus the cost of the books. The test only runs $40. Varies from place to place.

I challenged both the non-restricted and the restricted exams and passed them both off the hop. No books or classroom and it cost me $130 for both. I contacted an examiner who held the tests in his house and i was the only one there. It took about an hour and a half and i was on my way.

Thanks for the help guys. I live in Northern Sask.
How much would you pay from challenge only.

I know there arn't many instructors in the area so that may have played into it for me.

york region firearms training centre

Hi,
I took the courses, RPAL & PAL, 2 days, 1 instructor, 18 in the class.
$260 (Toronto) Includes, books, photo, papers and exams.

York region has full course for two days and THEN they charge some where around $350 for both and PERSONALLY I wouldn't sell myself cheap and I don't recomend challenging although it's OK for the people living in rural cummunities or farms, but if you intend to train people for range , they needs to know bit more than just handeling and shooting,I mean the LAW

And, for another "For example..."

I currently charge $50 for every test they write, plus books, it is the same for a course or a challange, only differance is that I try to have a minimum of 10 students in the class for the course to make it pay for the time involved. I know guys that are up to $70 for the course and $70 for a challange.

I charge $125 for the complete non-restricted course, 8hr & both tests. Restricted is $75for 6 hrs & both tests the next day. Challenges are $45.

I paid $80 each for my restricted and non-restricted tests. I simply challenged them as I had studied the CFSC and CRFSC manuals non-stop for 3 weeks.

So all said and done, with the tests and the books, it came to $190

Keep in mind too that the instructor charged me the same rate as if I had taken the course with him...so I didn't save any money by challenging...only time.

In Ontario was $225 for 2.5 day course with books for both PAL and rPAL. 2 instructors, class of 14-16 students.

Also had access to several action types.
