how much $ to start reloading

I found yesterday a rcbs rockchucker master kit still in the box but about 10 years old never used. It is slightly different from what they are selling today since it has a case trimmer in the kit and today's do not.
I can get it for 400 which I think is a good deal and should have everything but dies to get me started. Am I correct

Hi; From my research on the usual e-bay kits they are not the same they are a 9357 on the part number and this is a 9367.
The currect e-bay ones donot have the case trimmer which is like 100 plus.
Shipping is like 75.00 also from the us. Cannot see any 57's in the completed e-bay auctions for the deal you got. 290 plus shipping yes.
You got a great deal

I also called it rock crusher by mistake. Have to get those M22 muncies out of my head

Mine did not come with the case trimmer and the P/N is 9357. You won't see it in the completed auctions because I always use "contact seller" and make "off eBay" offers. This way the seller saves the 9% eBay fees and will often pass the savings on. I would forward you the seller's info but he said after that he should have checked the price of shipping first because it cost him $86. I don't think he'll make the mistake again. Make sure you tell the seller to ship USPS (NOT UPS!) and to mark the package as a gift with a value of $40. Good luck.

Thanks Mike for the help. I am probally going to buy the one I found locally for 400. It is just 20 minutes from me and has the case trimmer included. I have reloaded all gauges of shotgun for over 30 years but this rifle stuff is all new to me.

More then you think. Especially if you want to do it for multiple calibers in quantity. I don't know how some of the internet reloaders get there prices down so cheap. Shipping, taxes, carbide dies, all the little stuff. It adds up.

I just put in an order with Dillon for $500 and I have a 550B already!

Do you NEED all the extras, nope, but if you want to enjoy reloading and stick with it, they sure help. Things like a progressive machine, multiple heads, magnum powder charge, bullet tray/feeder, case cutters, prep center ect!!

It gets out of control fast.

I would give yourself a budget of $1000. It will be less but at least you won't be surprised when it gets close to that.

And don't forget the only way to get the price of reloads down is usually done by buying in bulk. And if you do that all at once, it also cost $$$$ I have a spread sheet I use for calculating costs (includes taxes, shipping), and I find most rounds cost 1/3rd of what they do for one box off the shelf at Walmart/CT/WSS and about 1/2 of what you can buy some rounds in bulk for (9mm, .223, .308)

I would budget about $800-$1000 to get a Dillon 550 plus various ancillaries. If you are going to be shooting .45 twice a week, you need a progressive. Of the popular auto pistol cartridges, .45 ACP is the one where you can realize the biggest cost savings over factory ammo.

I would start out with a Dillon Press. There is an old proverb that states, “He who buys the best only cries once”. With a 550 you can load rifle and pistol relatively inexpensively. From time to time they come up in the EE or EBAY. It doesn’t matter if it is used as they last a long, long, long time.
