How NOT to fire a pistol grip shotgun. VIDEO

I'm with you...sort of....

I guess i just don't understand why anyone would want to put a pistolgrip on a shotgun. i guess it's the cool factor?? like the gangsta a$$holes who hold the pistol sideways when they shoot.

I can't help but laugh at any silly sob who would make his "tactical" shotgun 75% less effective because he wants to look cool while he's getting his a$$ blown off. Like bringing a knife to a gunfight.

I know exactly what you mean. I agree that most people should never put a pistol grip on a shotty due to the decrease in effectiveness and the propensity for huge dental bills.

HOWEVER, isn't the point of a PG shotty maneuverability when sweeping close quarters. Say in home defense? In this case a PG shotty would be ideal. I would guess that concealability in a SHTF scenario may also come in handy. Personally I'm thinking of getting a super shorty griz for the car.

just my opinion:
in Canada you are limited by OAL anyway. (please lets not rehash the PG on an 8" barreled 870 discussion -- unless you can cite a court precedent where it was actually proven to be legal and non-restricted, i dont want to hear it).

i would rather have an 8" or 12.5" barreled shotty with a fully functional, short LOP stock than an 18 incher with a PG. my 12.5" barreled wingmaster with hogue short LOP stock feels just as handy and compact as an 18" with a PG and is much more practical and functional.

that looked like it hurt. i did that once, although i just grazed myself. never did it again. here's a vid of me shooting my Mossberg pistol grip. i've defintely improved my technique since then. and yes, my friend giggles like a little girl.

My friend did that once with a 3.5" 12 gauge.

If you grip properly doing that with 2 3/4" or 3" shells shouldnt smash your face. If it is, your not gripping tight enough.

I took a guy shooting one time and he insisted on shooting it that way. I warned him numerous times, but he did it anyway. He kept telling me he had far greater firearms experience than I had and that he had been shooting for years....
knocked out both his front teeth and buggered the safety on my mossberg. he went to the dentist and I went to the gunsmith.

When I shoot my 870 with a PG I hold the forend with my left arm locked at the elbow and take most of the recoil with the left arm. I'm basically just aiming it with the right hand. My right hand is about 9-10" away from my face.

As far as shooting a PG shotgun with one hand, I usually find the recoil lifts the muzzle but doesn't seem to come back at me much. I've even shot a single shot cut down to minimum length with the stock cut and shaped to an old style pistol grip that way without problems and it only weighed about 4 lbs.

Pistol grips have there place and can be handled safely.

Maybe the PG on a shotgun is not the most practical of setups, I'll agree it's not. Espesially if you are using it for home defence and not shot it much.

BUT... it's fun to play with and shooting skeets from the hip is a blast.
