I guess going shooting is pretty boring for you. And I guess you'll never be interested in CCW.

It was a lapse of attention with a dangerous piece of machinery, like he says, it could hae been a chainsaw or a carving knife, all same-same.

I hope you don't sit there revving up your chansaw at your computer desk while reading CGN. :) Vrrrmmm.. Vrrrrrrrrrrmmm...

Play with your guns somewhere safe. Who here loads thier handguns at thier computer desk? This reminds of that Simpsons episode where homer gets a gun. This guy just bums around his house with his pistol? I have little sympathy for this person. Gun safety = common sense, plain and simple.
 
Does the XD sub compact not have the same safties and loaded chamber indicator as the tactical? Was there a saftey malfunction, or was it just one of those things that you can't believe that you've actually just done? I,m not trying to say anything negitive about the poor gent which this happened to, and I am happy for him and his that it wasn't worse. Also, I will be the first one to admit that I have had my share of absent minded injuries, you know prying that siezed bowl off of a two stroke carb in the middle of winter knowing the "WHEN" the screwdriver slips I'm going to bleed. But, I guess I'm just wondering if there was a malfuction with firearm, or was it just one of those things?

Lets understand the list of minute details that contributed to this incident.

1. The loaded firearm sitting beside his computer
2. The New and relatively incompetant owner/shooter
3. The absolute lack of training
4. Plain old stupidity and over confidence
Remember this folks, in order to damage yourself or others you must break 4 vital rules of firearm safety.

1. Firearm must be loaded
2. Firearm must be pointed at someone
3. Safety must be disengaged or malfunctioning(in which case its operator error)
4. FINGER ON TRIGGER!

Should you fail(or succeed) to break any ONE of the 4 you cannot injure yourself or others. So how many more chances does a moron like this need? I'm Glad he's not more seriously hurt but the real tragedy is that he's already procreated and passed on the stupid gene.

That is one of the main reasons that in Canada you have to have the safty course first .

I don't emember who it was but someone here on CGN made the statement . and I believe it is very true here, that there is no such thing as a "accidental Discharge, but they are Negligent Discharges"

One of the worst things that this guy has done before he shot himself was REPRODUCE !!!!.
