As a few others have mentioned, I clean before a match. Then put about 50 rounds through before the match, just to make sure everything is functioning properly. Around these parts we usually have matches once or twice a month, so I might have anywhere between 1,000 to 3,000 rounds between cleanings.

My PPC revolver gets a good cleaning once a shooting season.. usually December... and that is only so the cylinder will still turn... If I was to clean it after each match I would have unpredictable results...

I do before every match, after every training session after I've chamber checked the ammo I'm going to use in the match.

I Also have a TiNi coated barrel (Infinity) but I get copper fouling. I've been told that I shouldnt but thats another thread

I shoot a Tanfoglio and I swear that thing runs best when its dirty so I never clean before a match. I always make sure there are at least 200 rounds throught it before a match, so it gets cleaned before the last practice before a match. Mags are differant thought. During a match i keep a close eye on those things, if theres any hint or dirt, sand or wood chips they get pulled apart and cleaned before the next stage.

Thanks everyone for you input.

Was doing some reading at another forum and alot say they don't touch the barrel and only clean and lube the rest of the pistol as well as the feed ramp.

I read many swear by the Schuemann method and how brass bristle brushes actually ruins a barrel and the crown... scratches is up.

I am one who give its a complete cleaning both the barrel, slide and frame after each match as well as practice sessions at the range even if it's a 100 rounds. Then lube it up. I have yet too have a malfunction except when my trigger's over travel stop screw adjusted itself and prevented it from firing a round from DA... re-loctite that grub screw did the trick.

I guess they do things differently down in the U.S.

Cheers.

Don't forget that the cleaning procedures noted above are also an opportunity to check for wear or breakage.

Thats why I do it after every range session or match. If there is something worn or broken I have time to deal with it rather than right before a major match.
My Millenium Custom gun, which is 12 years old, has a Nowlin barrel and has been cleaned after every use and probably has 100,000 rounds down the pipe and still shoots into 1 1/2" at 25m.....I think its OK.
