I shoot mostly surplus from my other guns so I have to at least rinse them after every day or they DO rust in less than 48 hours. But my 10/22... its got nearly 1500 rounds through it since I got it and I havent really "cleaned" it yet. When I installed the dlask charge handle I sprayed the bolt off with some degreaser before I re-installed it. But thats it. Havent even cleaned the barrel. I realize this will make some of you gasp and shudder with discussed but for me, this is a fun gun, not one to stress over. So far, nearly 1500 rounds and not a SINGLE issue. Every single round has fed and fired perfectly, other than the first few from my Nomad clip... it didnt work well. But the rest through the steel lips have never failed and thats using all different brands of ammo. Nothing fancy, just the cheap stuff.

With that said, im cleaning tonight. But still... I wonder how often the AVERAGE 10/22 gets cleaned. Im sure the higher end builds are babied. But the beaters, how do they get treated?

I had to clean it because mine had a little failure to eject problem when new. Now I clean it every second year, or when it starts to FTE again.

I have a pro-shot tactical cable style cleaning kit. So I clean the barrel with patches only after every range trip.

I do not plan on resetting my scope after each range trip, therefore, I only plan on taking the rifle apart about every 1000 to 2000 rounds for a complete clean.

Once before hunting season and once aft.....no... wait.... ya, once before hunting season :p

I'm probably pushing 5000rnds at the moment. It goes out tomorrow then it'll be cleaned this weekend, but only since I'm leaving town and will be getting back after grouse open up.

this depends on ammo. for example you can shoot alot with winchester 333's or 555's. If you shoot winchester xpert, I doubt you'll make 300 rounds without needing a cleaning.
if you shoot with a dry bolt, it'll shoot longer than if you oil the bolt.

If it's stainless with plastic stock, throw the damn thing in the dishwasher along with your other dishes. Will come out clean and shiny.

I haven`t stripped and cleaned my 10-22 since 1981 or 2.;) I find the mags will get sticky and not feed causing more trouble than the rifle, still not a big issue. Maybe i shouldn`t throw the mags on the dash of the truck when out working and that would save me a little bit of cleaning on `em.

I haven't used mine much.. less than 500 rounds through it.
But never cleaned it, and it works perfectly.
One of the best guns I own

I clean my weapons after every shoot. Doesnt matter if i shoot it once. There isnt one thing i put away wet, but thats just what i was taught. I dont see any stopages or malfunctions and never any jams. A lot of people i know only clean there guns once a year, after hunting season is over. Theres the sausage party, then the gun cleaning party.

Same as ceLL here! I actually thought I toned it down by just running a bore snake after each shoot instead of a scrub! The only thing I don't do is tear the guts out of the trigger group. The receiver and bolt get a rub though and I oil lightly.

1978 until now; been cleaned a few times. Never had it apart. Keep the barrel clean. Never jams ever. An excellent well built 22. Traded a Mcleods 50th Anniversary Special (winchester) 410 single shot for it. The Winchester cost $49 and had a 50 embossed on the receiver in gold paint. Pre 80's inflation prices and also simpler times.

Well... this makes me feel better. I cleaned it last night and honestly, it was a waste of time The barrel was pretty much clean. One patch with a bit of black on it, the 2nd one was white when it came out. I sprayed some degreaser into the bolt area, then a light rub of oil on any exposed parts. There was just a bit of black gunk that dripped out but nothing to speak of. I guess ill just run it till it give me problems then. which is good because the nomad kit is a pain to remove. I guess I just got nervous as my SKS and VZ58 are SOOOO dirty after only a few hundred rounds... whereas the 10/22 was nearly clean after 1000... lesson learned. Love the gun though. LOVE it. Im having more fun shooting this thing than my big guns. Its just so much easier and cheaper.
