how often do you clean your 17 hmr?

Those who have 17 hmrs, how much do they foul the barrel? Do you see accuract drop away after a few boxes of rounds? I think my savage does, so I patch it out with bore shine a couple of times a day on a big gopher cull.
My FIL wants one, but I know he will never clean it, so I'm wondering what will happen to his barrel without cleaning.

I use the hmr quite a bit and unless your shooting at paper for pinpoint accuracy dont worry much about cleaning it.A boresnake seems to do the job.My sons .17 never gets cleaned and it will outshoot mine anytime (both savages).

Really? Like after ever box of 50? I'll go through more than a brick of 500 in a day just shooting gophers


I dont remember the last time I cleaned mine, Its probably due for sure, but its still driving tacs

I have'nt used mine that much, apart from a few days in the summer. I had issues with accuracy one day, thought it was fouling, but later found I had zero problems with the tasco scope(poi moves with parralax ring/magnification)
Picked up a fixed 10 used at a gunshow and problem solved.
Still think that a jacketed bullet at 17 speeds must leave copper behind in the pipe.

Mine have been really clean shooters, but after about 3 boxes of ammo., I'll run a few patches down the pipe. Never that dirty though.
