How often do you clean your gun/barrel

I'm just curious, how often do you clean your gun, and more specefically your barrel. the reason I ask is I clean my gun each time I go to the range, I mean even if I shoot only 50 rounds through it. I dissassemble it, clean the barrel with bore cleaner, then oil, then wipe it clean, all with patches. Then I wipe the whole gun down, and use q-tips and rags to clean off the excess grime and metal shavings from the casings.

Am I overdoing it? Do I need to clean my gun each time I do out? Do I need to clean the barrel each time? Is there a round count at which I should be cleaning?
 
depends..on .22s when they stop shooting...on .45s more often.. on GLock or HK every few hundred rounds. I generally always use jacketed which seem abit cleaner..

as long as you avoid the Russian "grease" rounds its not to bad...
 
I clean auto's after each range session. I clean revolvers once a year or so.......only because I hate cleaning them.
 
I usually clean my 45 after each trip to the range. I shoot anywhere from 100-200 rounds each time I'm there and with the cheap target ammo I shoot it gets really dirty.
 
If I keep my gun clean and well maintained then I expect my gun to perform as advertised when I shoot it. Thus I clean my guns after every visit to the range(or field). Cleaning your guns is just another way to bond with them and become more familiar with their operation....

Same. I clean them out after every trip to the range, regardless of what they are.

And then once a year, I'll rip em all apart, down to the bare bones, and clean the dust and dirt off each part, and oil them all.

For me, yes and no.

I clean before each match, so roughly every 400-600 rounds, or 2-4 range practice sessions. In the summer, if practice gets really rolling, I'll clean when it starts to jam. (that seemed to be around 1300+- rounds with the IPSC Commem.)

Every L3 match gets a full tear down cleaning with close inspection one week before. Including new trigger slick on the sear.

I only shoot plated or jacketed, so it's a little hoppes #9 here and there with a patch and some Q tips to remove the crud, and then some FP-10 for lube.

I want my guns dirty during practice, a scenario where it's in worse condidion then it will ever be in competition. (That includes, my Glock, CZ, STIs and my home made raceguns)

For the non-competition pistols in the house they're cleaned and oiled when placed in storage. Ie the .22 is cleaned after 1-2 range sessions and the .45 Springfield is always cleaned before being placed away.
 
I clean my HK about every 1K rounds. I shoot jacketed bullets so some Hoppes #9 on a bore snake and it's done in one swipe. Gotta love polygonal barrels.
 
Full strip every time. The only exception is my shotguns - if I've only shot a few times (ie: less than 10) during a morning of hunting, I'll just give the barrel a quick couple swipes with a boresnake.

Rifles and Handguns get the FULL cleaning deal every time. I HATE putting a gun away dirty.
 
Sorry, for the most part I mean "field strip and clean" meaning, take apart everything into it's most basic element without using tools.

I don't take the grip panels off or disassemble pistol trigger groups every time. For shotguns, I take apart the action (barrel, bolt, trigger group out of receiver), but don't disassemble the trigger itself.

For pistols, it's slide, barrel, guide rod, springs, and the rest gets a spray of brake cleaner and Hoppes #9.

For my AR's, I take apart the bolt, carrier, charging handle. I don't disassemble the lower, just spray the internals.
