How Often Do You Clean

How many rounds do you put through your gun before you clean it, or do you clean it after each range visit?

After each shooting session. Mostly about 300 to 500 rounds, sometime less.
I remove lead and copper out of the barrel with Outer's Foul out system.

as often as I shoot it. That being everytime I shoot I clean. Simply philosophy: If the gun is clean and fails, you can blame the gun. If gun is dirty and fails, blame the owner.

Edit to add: Cleaning your gun doesn't mean just cleaning it also means inspecting for damage or worn parts.

Open IPSC gun, after every session, my CZ's,..... well I just end up cleaning when they are gunky like an old small block engine in a junkyard. They just keep on going.

extractor and barrel ramp every 200-400 rds. Other stuff is not cleaned that much, barrel every 300-500rds. A wipe down on the internals about the same.

It depends. My .38 super seems to thrive on neglect. I shoot clean burning powder and jacketed bullets. Most often I'll just wipe out the chamber and breech face and run a bore snake. If it's going to be a few weeks until I get back to her, she get's the top end stripped.

only when they start to get some ... build up of residue / slime / gunk etc.

If it looks ok, don't clean it. If bits fall off when you blow on it... time to clean.

I shoot only jacketed ammo, with clean burning powders and 'clean' primers.

I shoot two or three times a week and am just too lazy and don't see the point in cleaning my guns every single time. That would be too much like work, and I really don't see the need or value of it. I clean them when I think they need it. Usually about every 300 rounds for the .45 and .32 and every 800-1,000 rounds for the .22 I'd guess.

I clean my revolvers more often than my semi-autos only because they seem to need more attention! I know it may sound crazy to some but I have always found that the semi's require less maintenance than the wheel guns.

I do one or 2 cleanings a year. My Sig P226,HK USP,and 1911s usually go through a few thousand rounds a year,I don't believe in over cleaning,I've seen way too many good rifles and pistols ruined this way at work.

Reaper,
In what way were they ruined? By wiping down the guts and exterior of your gun I can't see any damage. Over cleaning your bore is definitely a concern.

I would say loosening of the pins from to much disassembly.....

Westicle,
What pins on what guns? My AR is just as tight now as it was when I bought it and it gets the usual cleaning everytime it gets shot. I don't however remove guts to clean it everytime. It gets cleaned while it is assembled, other than the upper removed from the lower.

When I first get a new gun I clean it every time I shoot it for the first few trips to the range. after that? never would probably be a good way to put it. I'll lube them (pistols) when they start slowing down, and occasionally use an alcohol pad to wipe down rails. Clean the bore? I think my 9mm Elite II has had that done maybe twice? maybe only once, in roughly 20,000 rounds. Don't see the need and it still shoots as good as new if not better it seems. I suppose if I had 5,000 race guns I might clean more often, but probably not. My Sako TRG-22 has had much better treatment, but only because I don't shoot it as much and I feel bad not cleaning it all the time.

On my gun Open and Standard guns I always clean the top end before every match...or every second practice (about 500+rds per practice) before a Level 3 I usually clean the bottom end before the last practice....then just the top end for the match again....
