How often/many times have you detail stripped the frame on your Glock 17/22?

I've never heard of any problems caused by detail stripping and (assuming you're not using a 7/16 punch of course) can't see any potential problems, because the pins aren't likely to go back in the same way they came out often enough to cause the kind of uniform wear that would expand the pin holes.

Yes. When I mean detail strip I mean removing all 35 pieces(including magazine components) and cleaning them all. If it can be pushed, pulled, or punched out it is. The only parts I don't remove are the sights. No need to remove them unless you wish to replace them. They get wiped down with some soap and water as opposed to solvents.

Same here. I detail stripped my G17 at least 10 times and it's still tight as new.

I contacted Glock about this very question and was told it could be done thousands of times with no ill-effect (if done properly).

The problem is the tool used to do the detail stripping can "out-of-round" holes in addition to trying to force the pins through holes that are not properly lined up (basically user error). This could have a negative effect making pins work loose over time.

Makes total sense.

I seldom detail strip my Glocks now (I always do a new Glock once, then leave it until something breaks --- should that ever happen).

i have done it over 2 dozen times. i use the glock tool (glock punch). the problems i have seen is when people usually do not use the glock tool. it is possible to widen the holes using the glock too as well, just be sure to push it slowly and straight....you shouldnt have any problems. i have detail stripped mine for fun at the beginning (i like to know every part of my firearms and how they work), then for modification purposes and upgrades. in the future i might detail strip once a year to give it a full cleaning.

I've put several thousand rounds through mine, and I never go beyond field stripping it and a quick clean and lube...It is still working fine. I don't see when a more intensive cleaning or disassembly of the frame would be necessary.

A detail clean isn't really necesary, but it allows you to fully understand how your pistol works, and if you like your guns to be really clean then its a simple task.
