how old in my 99

made a another trade this afternoon and got a savage 99c series A, in 308 win, it has a detachable mag and a tang safety which is very nice for me because I shoot left but I can't find out how old it is, there is no letter code on it

No encircled letter on the lever? Some of them are really faint. Post the first three figures of the serial # and someone will be able to tell the date of manufacture. Being a series a , I would guess late 60's early 70's.

With a c prefix, it is likely closer to 1980 manufacture than it is to 1970 . As another poster said, no collector value but an excellent deer rifle none the less.

I have a 99E in .308 (1980s) and it is a tack driver. They make an awesome hunting rifle.

Try to get someone to part with a post-1960 .250 Savage or any .284 or 7mm-08 or .375 Winchester.
