How r the ticks

Went for 2/3hours today , walking through the alders with my hounds. When I got home picked 10 ticks off the dogs , small little black ones. Ive never had to deal with these before, only had the bigger reddish ones that went away in the hot summer.
I had a 10 year old and a 3month old pup with me so only seen one rabbit, never fired a shell. Cooler days are coming hope these ticks thin out some. I've heard these ticks handle the cooler temperatures?. How are the other provinces with them? Bet the rabbits are full of them.
 
Here in N.W. Ontario took a couple of ticks off my dogs last week. This is the latest I have seen ticks here in a lot of years.
 
Mine is a k9advatix II dog and still had to pull one off his ear the other day. Hunted quite a bit last week's gun hunt and never had a single one on me. But I do get my dog a Lyme disease shot every year. Wish they had a vaccination for us like they do dogs.
 
Had one on my lab this week. One on one of my hunting buddies last week and on tetracycline for it. My wife had one on her hip two weeks ago as well as one crawling on her sweater. Pretty bad here at my place this year.
 
They were in Saskatchewan last week. Nobody would have believed I had a bunch on me if I didn't have a picture

We have ticks in BC until the outside temps get about -5C.

Usually get them in the fields or tall weeds.

Sask31, I have never come across ticks as small as you posted. Darn. Now I have to check out my dog. Those are almost microscopic.
 
The tiny black deer tick is the one that carries Lyme disease the others can't hurt you even if they do suck your blood for a bit.
 
30 years ago I used to rabbit hunt with my terriers on a sheep farm in Northumberland (UK). If I told you how many sheep ticks my dogs would pick up some days you would not believe me.
These ticks were so small you would'nt find them on the dogs until the ticks had a good feed a day or two later. I got used to cleaning ticks off the dogs.

I am scared of the ticks here due to the fact that some carry lyme.
 
I've never had a problem with ticks until this year. Pulled a huge one off my boxer's head. My yellow lab started getting lethargic and wouldn't eat, so I took him to the vet. As soon as the vet said Lyme Disease, I felt stupid for not thinking of it sooner. So, long story short, they are bad this year
 
WMU 62... I found two crawling around inside one of my backpack's pocket. Other than that nothing on me nor did I find anything in/on my hunting clothes.
 
I got bit by one three weeks ago here in Ontario. Within a week, evidence from the bite site suggested Lyme's. I'm on antibiotics as I type this. A real piss off.

Growing up/hunting in southern Manitoba got me completely blase about ticks. I've picked 60 off myself from one outing. Rarely ever have they had a chance to bite, maybe 2-3 in my life. But the Lyme's disease has me a lot more wary. Wasn't expecting a problem in very late October.
 
Not much now, tons during the spring and fall. I was never really bothered by them much until this year. I got the tell tale lyme disease bulls eye rash and a months worth of antibiotics.

You were lucky you got the rash. Most folks don't. A months worth of antibiotics may not cut it so you aren't out of danger yet. That one month thing is from the US where private health insurance hates paying for anything. I never got the bulls eye rash and it took 10 years to get diagnosed in the US. I needed 7 months of antibiotics.
