As I remember it, the PAL course does not get into the semantics of barrel lengths (factory vs cut down, manual vs semi etc). Only the high level Non-restricted == 18.6" or longer, 26" overall length is described... Matter of fact, many of the intricacies, such as magazine capacity was also taught and described in the higher level abstraction. Things like pistol mags in rifles, or magazines that hold other calibres etc. was not even mentioned. Not sure if that was just the instructor and how the material was delivered or what, but Most of that information I learned after getting my PAL...
